Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, November 21st
Hawkesbury Race 5 (Market)
I want to be against the favourite (4) Bring The Ransom here, she was very impressive winning at Goulburn last start but I feel she had the race run to suit. She led throughout and after stacking them up before the turn, she railed and got away early in the straight. I can’t see that happening here and this looks a little tougher. (1) Isilmo interests me, the Godolphin runner resumed at Newcastle and ran on hard to narrowly miss two back. He then went Kembla in a similar race to this, was slowly away and never really out of trouble, eventually hitting the line well although well beaten. He was against the tempo of the race there and forget he went around, he had a similar pattern to this last prep and won third-up impressively here at the track. He maps beautifully, the perfect result will be if the favourite can’t cross and we get the cold sit on him.\
Moe Race 8 (Market)
(9) Sweet Elvira is a new addition to the Phillip Stokes yard, the NZ bred mare had 8 starts in her homeland before winning a maiden at Woodville back in April. She was then sent to the paddock and sent to our shores, and to her current home at Pakenham. She made her Australian debut at her home track a fortnight ago in a BM58 on a heavy track, was mid-field in the run and ran on hard to score closer to the inside. I am not sure that it was advantageous to be where she was on the track and she should have taken plenty from the run. She draws well in the middle of the line and clearly handles the conditions. This is harder but I liked that first run on Australian soil, with the right horse to follow here she will be in the finish.
Scone Race 4 (Market)
Connections of (4) Schemer must be getting a little impatient, the Paul Perry trained grey gelding is still a maiden after 17 starts, but has placed at 8 of them. He usually gets back in his races, last start however he settled closer at Kempsey but was caught three-wide without cover. The jock had to get stuck into him but he responded and ran them down late to get within 0.2 lengths and ran third. A horse from that race that was beaten 6 lengths has since come out and won at Grafton, so the formlines through that race should be ok. I think he will revert to being ridden with cover today as there seems to be a stack of speed on paper, it doesn’t look a strong maiden like we can sometimes get in this part of the state. This is his day!
Gatton Race 4 (Market)
(6) Blaine is a 7YO that up until 2 starts ago, had not won out of maiden grade. Two back he was at the non-TAB's at Stanthorpe and won by a length with a gap to third. He was then here at Gatton last time in a Class 1, started from Gate 7 and after beginning well, he led all the way and was simply too fast for them. He gets a winnable race here to make it three in a row, from the good draw should be able to ping and go from wire to wire. The only other time he has been here was three runs back where he box-seated and was most unlucky and arguably should have won. The jockey change looks a negative one but I am happy to take the girls when they have a claim when you are hoping it will just be a jump-and-run affair.
