Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, December 5th
Coffs Harbour Race 2 (Market)
(6) Beachbreak has been to the races 4 times in her career, the first three of those were trained by Brad Widdup. She was transferred to the Toby Edmunds yard and sent to the paddock, she resumed at the Gold Coast two and a half weeks ago. She was solid in the market SP’ing at $4.60 on the official flucs, drawn well she was bumped at the start before settling behind the speed two-wide. She was very green and hung-out when approaching and into the home straight, she ran on well into second beaten a length with daylight third. She maps well again from barrier four, improvement is likely off that run and she won’t have to go much better, if at all, to win this.
Coffs Harbour Race 8 (Market)
We were all over (12) Keen Power when he won his maiden last week, shocked that they went up 7/4, he was heavily backed and SP’d around the $1.50 following some brilliant trials. He didn’t have it all his own way and was three-wide for a lot of the journey, after straightening and balancing up it soon became apparent he was a different class, accelerating quickly he ran straight by them for an effortless win. He does have to step up out of maiden grade to a Class 2, but this guy is well above average in ability. He will start in the red again so anything in the black looks a gift? Look for him next start in a Highway in town.
Kyneton Race 1 (Market)
A lot will depend on if the money comes for the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig first starter (4) Field Of Lights. He did win a recent jump-out at Moe but he was ridden along a fair way from home, after railing the jock got really busy and he only held-on narrowly if at all form a horse finishing better that was under a hold. Happy to take him on off the inside gate on debut. (9) Echo Boomer has been to the races twice, on debut she placed on a heavy track and was sent to the paddock. She resumed at the Bool three weeks ago, again with the sting out of the ground, wasn’t the best away and was last early on the rails. She improved between runners but was still 8 lengths back approaching the turn. She saved ground and ran on hard up along the inside, she finished as good as the winner out wide. She gets out to the 6 furlongs which certainly should suit her, with a better getaway and sweeping wide with momentum, she should be finishing as good as any.
Townsville Race 4 (Market)
(4) Smokin’ Tommy was huge odds when debuting up the coast at Cairns last start. He began well and was ridden along over the 950m trip to get a handy position in the run just behind the leaders. He had to angle around those leaders early in the straight losing momentum, he came with the winner late after he got past him at the 200m mark and was as good through the line. The margin was only 0.3 lengths, he is drawn wider here but getting out to the 1000m on the bigger track should suit. He took a while to balance up, expect him to go forward. No prices available at the time of writing but that debut run was very encouraging. Masayuki Abe retains the ride. (2) Bouyancy was the runner-up in that same race and was very heavily supported, he had every chance after leading and was tiring late.
(4) Smokin' Tommy E/W
