Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, December 22nd
Sale Race 3 (Market)
(15) Resplendence takes on the older girls at her second career start, the 3YO filly is trained by Phillip Stokes at Pakenham. She made her debut there at her home track again against the girls over 1400n, she was mid-field in the run after only beginning moderately. She chased hard and got closest on eth line, her beaten margin was only 0.6 of a length but she officially ran fifth. She will be better for the run no doubt and gets the extra trip today, drawn well and if she begins better than what she did at her debut, she should settle a lot closer. (13) Our Guardian Angel looks to have come back well, she settled closer than what she had been at her first four starts at prep one, she chased hard into second and this looks no harder back against her own sex.
Sale Race 6 (Market)
(7) Mount Madeira looks to have plenty of upside, he is only lining up for career start number three. He debuted at Bendigo over 7 furlongs, got back in the run before running on well and didn’t have a lot of room late. He then had a 5-week break before going to Echuca and was heavily backed getting out to the mile. He again settled in the back half of the field, swopped wide on the turn and showed a good turn-of-foot to hit the front inside the furlong. He went clear to the line and was strong through it, suggesting the extra trip today should be right up his alley. This is obviously harder but he looks to have above average ability. Play safe and take him each-way if that’s how you like to gamble, he will get back in the run so I expect that combined with him coming out of maiden grade will see him drift in the betting.
Taree Race 2 (Market)
(2) Oxford Bella is still a maiden after 8 starts, she has placed at three of them and this looks as good a chance as she will get to break the duck. She has obviously had issues over her career, she was off the scene for 72 weeks before resuming last prep, only had the two starts before another 39 week break. She showed that she can mix it up in much better maidens than this and her run resuming was encouraging. She was at Taree two weeks ago and settled mid-field in the run before hitting the line hard into third, beaten just over a length. The key here today is that they have pulled the trigger and put the blinkers on, up to the 1300m she should be able to settle closer and the gear change can be the difference.
Taree Race 4 (Market)
(2) Genghis Khan is a former Kiwi that only had one run across the ditch, he finished mid-filed on a heavy track at an Avondale maiden before hitting the paddock. He was sent across the Tasman to the Jason Deamer team at Newcastle and had his Australian debut here at the track earlier this month. He was sent out favourite from the wide barrier, just into black figures. After jumping well, he was pushed forward before getting a lovely trail behind the two leaders. After a couple of horses started to struggle before the turn, he was eased wider and ran on hard, eased down late to win by 2.5 lengths with almost 2 lengths back to third. It was a good effort straight to the mile at his first Australian run, another wide draw presents today with Sam Clenton retaining the ride. He looks to be better than average and should be able to go through the grades nicely this campaign.
