Horse Racing Tips: Monday, October 28th
Benalla Race 6 (Market)
(1) Bonaparte has only missed a place once in his five-start career, that was fresh two starts ago at Ballarat where he sat up on the speed and was outkicked on his first go on a soft track. He then went to Cranbourne last time and was a mile off them last, improved to the turn and ran on hard to beaten 0.2 lengths. He was off the map last time and started around flip-of-the-coin odds, although he got very close, he did have his chance. He goes from the 6 furlongs to the 1400m which looks ideal, should settle mid-field form the draw and finish too well. I would be betting anything in black figures.
Benalla Race 8 (Market)
(6) Tulpar comes back in grade for her fifth run this prep, she had been off the scene a long time before resuming this time in. She was at Bendigo two back and stormed over the top at the mile to get her maiden win out of the way at long odds. Her first run out of maiden grade was in a tougher BM64, she was very poor on paper but the key here is coming back on top of the ground. All three runs this prep that have been on the soft she has been poor, the maiden win was on a good track. She should be double figure odds, drawn well and should be settling closer. Play each-way if that’s your thing.
Cessnock Race 2 (Market)
(1) Sazavee is going to be well found in the market, the combination of Bullock/Lees usually is. Although he looks well in at this grade, he was right out to the 1900m at the back end of last prep and probably needs the run. I am happy to right against him here resuming for the new yard. Also, coming from the Gai/Bott stable, I am not sure he will have that same tactical speed. (5) Contalmaison has only missed a place once in his career, it was two back at Tuncurry in what was a hot form race that has produced 5 subsequent winners. Last start at Coonamble he sat up outside the leader and although well beaten, stuck on well for second. A horse that was beaten more than 5 lengths has since come out and won its maiden. There doesn’t look a lot of speed on paper and he should be able to land on the bunny and be very hard to run down. He looks a great each-way bet to nothing.
(5) Contalmaison E/W
$8.00
Cessnock Race 3 (Market)
(6) Onemoreforluck has had enough chances, this will be start number 14 but he won’t get any better than this. The Grant Allard trained mare has placed at her last three starts, beaten a long way two back at Newcastle when wide and back throughout, then once again got back last start against the girls and made good ground late into second with a big gap to third. Thiis looks a lot easier, she gets Bullock on and is drawn to settle closer. Back in trip is a little concern but if she can spot up mid-field, she should finish best. If not, you won’t see her in this tips column anytime soon.
