Horse Racing Tips: Friday, June 24th
Coffs Harbour Race 2
(11) Pace Stick is on debut for the local yard and Matty Bennet takin the ride, you won’t see many better trials than his recent one here at the end of May. He jumped well, ambled up alongside the leader around the bend before accelerating nicely and winning by 3+ lengths untouched. He does have to take on the older horses at his first start and gets out to the 1200m, but he may just be too quick for them. He meets a moderate field of maidens, his main threat may be the Toby Edmonds trained (1) Wats Wong who has shown some ability, but this guy may be above average the way he trialed. Expect hm to be well backed.
Coffs Harbour Race 3
We are relying on Matt Bennett to get a race to race double with (10) Hellenism in Race 3. The daughter of Helmet has been to the races once in her career, that was here at her home track three weeks ago where she was runner-up over 1200m. She was checked heavily at the start, settled well back and was held-up when the runs came approaching the turn. She got around runners at the top of the lane before attacking the line nicely and looks well suited getting out to the 1400m. The main danger looks to be from the Dunn stable in (6) Maspoeta. He has been runner-up at both starts, comes back in trip which doesn’t look ideal and is drawn out in the carpark. Very happy to take him on.
Canberra Race 2
(1) We Could Be Heroes was runner-up here on the synthetic track last start when resuming, he was well back near last in the run before running on hard and eventually getting run over late. He looked like he had just run out of condition at the back end of that race, stepping up to the 1200m today with that fitness edge on his side, he should look the winner at some stage. It looks a relatively open race on paper, (2) Boom Queen was good here last time but had every chance, (6) Withorn has the wide gate to deal with after a dominant maiden win on this surface last time and (8) Tingu creates interest at his second Australian start. The European import was ok here last time but will have taken plenty from the run after having 10 months off and travelling across the world.

Rockhampton Race 2
(2) Paper Trade is going to be really short in this and will be very hard to beat no doubt, but am happy to take him on with the 3YO (3) Coastal Boy. He travels up from the Sunshine Coast and was very consistent last prep, he resumed at the Caloundra track three weeks ago where he was solid in the market at 62 grade. He was poorly away and was lucky that the jock stayed on, never in the hunt, he actually made ok ground late when not really put under any pressure. He was racing really well last campaign and the support was there for him fresh, the favourite will be hard to beat no doubt after a cracking win at Eagle Farm last time, but having his first go here at the track I am happy to risk him at what will be the very short odds.
Pakenham Race 8
(1) Saucy Jack drops back in grade her after only a fair effort at BM70 level last time. He has good tactical speed and from the middle draw he looks the leader. Third-up today, he should be nearing peak fitness and will take plenty of running down, the leaders can sometimes be very hard to chase here on the synthetic. Hopefully they ride him positively and just let him stride, he might be worth a double up in the run if that is the case and he isn’t over-racing.
