2024 AFL Round 12 Preview & Betting Tips
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, June 1st, MCG
Fans of the brown and gold will be quietly confident in the leadup to this, after a month-long stretch of competitive footy came bearing fruit. Three wins were yielded with their only loss at the hands of the Power by a solitary point a fortnight ago. But in true Hawthorn fashion they dusted themselves off and produced their most convincing win the following week opposed to Brisbane.
Much to the credit of the Hawks, when the Lions threw one final punch late in the piece, this time, they came prepared with an answer and were able to cast aside the mental demons of Adelaide Oval. It showed maturity to be tasked with a similar scenario and come up trumps by putting to practice the learnings of last Sunday in how to starve a fast-finishing side.
The return of Will Day has been a positive one with the 22-year-old fitting in seamlessly since his layoff with injury sidelined him for an extended period. In a similar boat is Changkuoth Jiath who has been welcomed back with open arms after an equally long stint in rehab. Both, whilst being key cogs in the Hawks wheel, fill depleted spots on the ground where their services will be called upon to help drive home the current momentum they possess.
On the other side of the ledger, Adelaide have had a mixed bag of results thrown their way the past month, kickstarted by a win in the Showdown, drawing against the Brisbane Lions, losing out narrowly to Collingwood before getting back on the winners list with a crushing defeat over the Eagles at home.
Match Prediction: Leaning towards the Hawks to secure another win on Saturday. They come in with their form being franked which helps split an even pairing, despite the odds slightly in favour of Adelaide. The home ground component adds merit to the Hawthorn argument with the Crows MCG struggles a telling sign in swaying my judgement.

Will Day 25+ disposals – From the outside looking in, it’s evident this young man has put his time off to good use, hitting the gym to bulk up and be in shape to ready tackle a big second half of the year.
Ben Keays 1+ goal – Has made a habit of sneaking out the back and catching his opponents off guard by then strolling into an open goal. Is usually a reliable leg that presents at a healthy price to hit the scoreboard.
James Sicily 20+ disposals – Returned in good order after being bruised and battered against the Western Bulldogs under the roof at Marvel last month. A seasoned professional that should make light work of this tally, aided by a kick out or two.
Jordan Dawson 1+ goal – We’ve thrown the Adelaide skipper in to snag one, he continues to bob up time and time again when his side needs him most. Is the juicy multi leg that helps the odds climb but more than happy to roll the dice on Dawson anytime.
