2024 AFL Round 16 Preview & Betting Tips
Gold Coast vs Collingwood
Saturday 4:35pm AEST, June 29th, People First Stadium
What a bizarre season this has been so far for Gold Coast. Their Jekyll-and-Hyde type personality has seen them go 7-0 in home games and 0-7 on the round – remarkable.
The Suns visited the Dockers in Perth last weekend and needless to say, they came up short. Never really a threat to win, the Suns were defeated by 20 points (65-85) in another frustrating performance for supporters.
The Suns’ star midfield trio of Touk Miller, Noah Anderson, and Matt Rowell simply need to find a way to be more competitive in the midfield battle on the road, as their numbers compared to what they produce at People First Stadium are staggering. Miller averages 3.7 less disposals on the road, while Anderson is -9.2 and Rowell is -6.8.
In positive news for the Suns, Ben King returns from injury this week, while the unlucky Brandon Ellis is out with yet another calf injury. Halfback flanker Lachie Weller is now also only three weeks away from being available.
The bye certainly came at the right time for Collingwood last weekend as a number of key players have now healed up and are ready to go on Saturday. The Magpies have made five changes to the team that defeated the Kangaroos by a solitary point in Round 14 (119-118), with Scott Pendlebury, Jordan De Goey, and Brody Mihocek among the inclusions.
The Pies have navigated a tricky season superbly to date and enter the round sitting in fourth spot on the ladder. Since starting their premiership defence at 0-3, the Pies have amassed an impressive 8-2-1 record.
Match Prediction: This is a tricky game to predict in terms of a winner. On one hand, the Suns are undefeated at home (7-0), while on the other hand, the Pies are in fantastic form and get a number of stars back in their lineup. So, with that said, I’ll be steering clear of the H2H and handicap markets.
Instead, backing Any Other Result in the Wire-to-Wire market looks to be a great option. This option has saluted in 3 of the last 4 Pies matches as well as 9 of their last 13. Due to the nature of their game style, matches involving the Pies see a lot of momentum swings unfold, and I expect that to be the case again on Saturday.

Sam Day 2+ Goals – He was fantastic in his return last weekend with three goals and gets his opportunity again this week. He remains great value for multiple goals.
Will Powell 20+ Disposals – Made his return last week with 22 touches in a terrific performance. The Magpies’ zone also allows for opposition defenders to accumulate disposals at one of the highest rates in the league.
Mac Andrew 15+ Disposals – Following on from the above, Mac Andrew should see an increase in his numbers which makes the 15-disposal mark a solid play.
