Victorian racing on Wednesday heads to Geelong for Geelong Cup Day, where eight races have been set down. The track as of Monday evening is a Good 4 and with fine weather on the cards, the track will be on the firm side.

Geelong Racing Tips: Wednesday October 23rd 2024
Race 5: Geelong Classic 2200m - 3.00pm AEDT
(1) Lavalier is racing like he will eat up 2200m after two runs at the Flemington 1800m on the bounce, the latest being a few weeks back in the Super Impose where he got back and did make up ground but was never threatening. Just needs a positive ride and I do think that the rise in trip will be ideal.
(4) Hot Too Go is knocking on the door to win and for mine, commands respect. He attempted to lead throughout over the mile at Seymour last start, giving a very strong kick from the front and just couldn't quite finish the job when second to Cavalry Man. The rise to 2200m is the query but if he gets a soft lead, he'll take running down.
(11) Rotating Soul is a massive price here I feel. I was quite keen on her last time at Cranbourne but just forget she went around. The race was a mess, she was back, held up...and just never got involved. The debut in the Oaks Trial was very good and up to 2200m in a thin race, I think she'll only run well.

Race 7: Geelong Cup 2400m - 4.10pm AEDT
*SCRATCHED* The Geelong Cup is the feature and for mine, (10) Manzoice is a big price here I feel. He comes through the Bart Cummings where the race shape was totally against him and I am not 100% sure he was happy on the shifty track. Back on a firmer deck, Blinkers off and a hungry Frog aboard, I think he'll run a ripping race.
(2) Francesco Guardi wouldn't have looked out of place in the Caulfield Cup so with that in mind, he's hard to beat here. He ran a beauty in the Turnbull I thought, sticking on really well after getting a suck run in transit. If he can overcome the gate, I am sure he'll look the winner at some stage.
(6) The Map was horrendous in this race last year but she is going much better 12 months on. She ran in the Herbert Power at Caulfield where she got back in the run and while she was never a winning threat, she kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Gets J Kah, maps to do no work and be strong late.
Race 9: After The Last Handicap 1500m - 5.20pm AEDT
I am confident that (6) Modown will win this and then win the Final during Cup Week. Ridden like it was a barrier trial fresh at Sale before going to Sandown where the race shape was against him, he kept finding the line behind Freak Of Nature. Third up, hard fit and B Shinn on, intent is there to say he's here to rumble. Very keen.
(11) Boltsaver is on the seven day back up for Rhys Archard after racing last Wednesday at Caulfield where he got back to near last in the run but I really liked the way he finished his race off in defeat behind Russian Meteor. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and J Kah on, he appeals.
(5) Unseen Ruler is a must for exotics. He resumed over 1400m on Seymour Cup Day where he got back in the run and while he was never threatening, his finale was quite good in defeat behind Titan Of Choice. Fitter and up in trip, maps to do no work...dangerous at odds.
(6) Modown
$3.70 (5 Units)
