The final meet of the Spring Racing Carnival is upon us with Emirates Stakes Day rounding off a spectacular week at Flemington.
It’s been a fun and profitable racing carnival for us. We came awfully close to a big result in the Melbourne Cup with our two top picks in Dandino and Fawkner having the runs of the race to finish 5th and 6th. Our third pick (saver) was Fiorente so all was not lost. Now we want to cap it off with another big day this Saturday.
The Emirates Stakes is run over 1,600 metres and there looks to be two contenders. Boban is the standout for us after a stunning win in the Group 3 Moonga Stakes at Caulfield a few weeks back. Boban was dead last on the rail at the turn, and looked gone for all money, before flying up the rail to snatch the win. Boban will get a better position in the Emirates Stakes, in better company, but should be too strong. The market has also spoken with Boban smashed in the early betting from $4.40 into $3.50. Our second pick is Toydini at $6.50 with some value about Solzhenitsyn at $17.
The VRC Sprint will be run down the straight at Flemington over 1,200 metres with Buffering ($7.50) no doubt planning to lead it up to try and snatch consecutive victories. However we’ll be going with Lucky Nine ($3.80) who almost got up when these two last met and should be able to get some revenge this time around.
The other race we’re interested in is the Momentum Energy Stakes. We really like the chances of Lake Sententia ($3.70). This horse has an impressive record stepping up to 2,000 metres and looks a great bet.
Hopefully there’s a winner or three for you there. Good luck on Saturday and let’s close the carnival with a bang!
