Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, August 31st 2024

Race 1 - Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap - 12:05pm AEST

*SCRATCHED* (9) Vivy Air is fitter now after a good effort at Rosehill last start where she finished 3rd after being backed into favouritism, beaten 1.25L. She has placed twice over the 1400m and the distance does look ideal at the moment before stepping up to the Mile during the Spring Carnival. She hasn’t won in almost a year but the leading Maher stable has only had her a few weeks so they are still getting to know her. From barrier 8, Michael Dee will come across and settle in the “one-one” I reckon so if it is windy again, she should get cover here which will help her chances.

(3) Sassy Boom likes dry tracks and will go forward here. She likes this distance and has raced in harder races than this.

(4) Lovazou scored at Caulfield last time and from the inside draw, she is another who should get cover. The query is that she may prefer wetter tracks but with a cozy run, she should be placing.

(9) Vivy Air

Race 9 - Stow Storage Memsie Stakes - 4:45pm AEST

(6) Antino is resuming and has been training up well in the lead up. The appointment of Jamie Kah is a good one after the horse had no luck last Spring with James Orman on top. He was 2nd behind Pride Of Jenni in a recent barrier trial but with Jenni setting the pace here, Antino can strike late. A dry track is a bonus and after luckless runs in this state last time, connections will be keen to strike first up.

(1) Mr Brightside is 5 from 5 over this track & distance and despite being more known for his 1600m and 2000m efforts, he has won six races over this journey.

(5) Pinstriped is fitter now and should have won at this track last time. He will likely get back here and with pace on, he will be one of the strongest late.

(6) Antino (E/W)

$6.50/$1.80 (1u e/w)

Race 10 - Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap - 5:20pm AEST

(2) Another Wil obviously has bigger and better races in sight in a few weeks but might be forward enough to take this one out too. He is resuming here and he has a 1st and 2nd to his name over this distance. He is 3 from 3 on Dry tracks and he was only 2L from the winner in the Group 1 Doncaster. He will be more mature now and he is down in class for this event. Barrier 16 is a worry but Kah is on and I reckon she will settle him in 3rd or 4th in the run. He has raced up there on a hot tempo before and battled on gamely and he will be up for the fight if he isn't caught too wide in this.

(1) Coco Sun likes running when fresh and the SA Derby winner has won twice over this distance previously. Blake Shinn takes the steer for the first time. Good odds.

(7) Bank Maur goes well on dry tracks and is another one at good odds. His first up record isn’t too bad but his Caulfield form is poor. Don’t think he can win but you might get around $3.50 a Place which is solid.

(2) Another Wil

$2.60 (3 units)
