Racing returns to Caulfield on Saturday and after a sunny and warm week in Melbourne, the track should remain a Good 4 throughout the program. There is expected to be a little rain around during the afternoon so if there is a chance of a downgrade to Soft, although it should be later in the day. The mares kick us off in Race 1 of the day which has a starting time of 12:25pm (AEST), with the last of nine finishing us off at 5:15pm (AEST). The P.B Lawrence Stakes (Group 2) is the Feature and Brendan Bunworth has you covered with his best Saturday Racing Tips below!
Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, August 17th 2024
Race 2: Catanach’s Jewelers Handicap - 1pm (AEST)
(7) Rise At Dawn will settle on speed and I think that will be the key in this race with a number of his rivals preferring to run on from behind. He is in fine form too and the Good4 track suits because he has won on four occasions on Dry ground. Back on August 3 he was too good at Flemington when leading all of the way and we know that headquarters is a hard track to lead throughout. He remains at the mile, a distance where he has scored on three occasions.
(6) Rhapsody Chic is the danger and she is in form but her best runs have been on rain-affected ground. If there is a track downgrade on race morning then the tips are reversed between first and second. She is 1 from 1 at Caulfield and Kah goes on.
(3) Devoted almost scored when 2nd at Flemington last time and the Hayes Team would be liking what they are seeing with their new horse in the stable. Dan Stackhouse hops back on.
(7) Rise At Dawn

Race 8: Catanahch’s PB Lawrence Stakes (Group 2) - 4:35pm (AEST)
(1) Pericles has been mixing his form a bit but in saying that was racing in harder races than this before his spell. He is first up in this race and he has won twice when first up previously. He was placed in three Group 1 races last year and it is just whether he is fit enough at this stage to whether he wins this. At 90 percent fitness he gets the money here so I am counting on his good fresh form to get us over the line. He trialed up well behind a classy one in Tropical Squall on August 6 so he might be okay here.
(6) Pinstriped is also resuming after five months off and will be keen to run well here after some ordinary races late in his campaign last time. He might be better on the wetter tracks though but is classy enough to place here.
(9) Jimmy The Bear likes this distance and is one of the fitter horses in the race. Did win the Mildura Cup easily two runs back.

Race 9: Senet Gambling Law Experts Handicap - 5:15pm (AEST)
(16) Elouyou loves the 1400m and has impressed at his last couple of runs. One was in a slowly run race, while the other was in a fast contest so it shows he is versatile. Lane has never run worse than 3rd on this gelding and he drops 3.5kg from his Rosehill win last start. Barrier 4 looks ideal and expectations are that he will go forward. If the track is downgraded late in the day it won't matter because he has won on the Soft before from 2 starts.
(15) Sandpaper is pretty fit but hasn’t won in 15 months. He goes better on Dry ground which he should get here and he is a good each-way hope. He will likely sit just behind the fav and he might get a nice run into it.
(8) The Open has drawn wide in 13 but is fit and running very consistently. Egan has won on four occasions on this guy and will be confident enough at his second try over the distance. His only run at Caulfield saw him lead and he wasn’t disgraced when 4th.
