BBL12 Hurricanes vs Stars Betting Tips
Blundstone Arena, Monday 9th January, 7.15pm
Hobart Hurricanes
Predicted XI: Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, D'Arcy Short, Zak Crawley, Tim David, Asif Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Patrick Dooley, Joel Paris, Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith
The Canes keep putting themselves in positions to win but just keep blowing it! They scored a ridiculous 229 in their clash against the Strikers on Thursday night, only for them to put up one of the more pitiful bowling displays in BBL history as Adelaide chased the total down with 3 balls to spare.
They also looked on top of their Saturday night clash against the Renegades, putting up 162 and taking a few early wickets before they allowed Sam Harper to unleash for 89 off just 48 balls including seven sixes. While their batting has been pretty solid throughout the season, their bowling has been absolutely deplorable and they will likely make a change to that end of their line-up for this clash.
Matthew Wade is out of the squad for personal reasons so D'Arcy Short might get another chance, but it's his bowling rather than his batting that might be most important to the side. Tom Andrews has been added to the squad as a local replacement for failed recruit Billy Stanlake who has been ruled out of the season with injury. If Paddy Dooley can't get up for the game then Andrews may get a look.
Melbourne Stars
Predicted XI: Joe Clarke, Tom Rogers, James Seymour, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Nick Larkin, Campbell Kellaway, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Liam Hatcher, Luke Wood, Adam Zampa
The Stars have won just two games this season but I think they have been a touch better than their record indicated. They went down in a thriller away from home against the Sixers in their last clash and were also competitive in both of their home games against Sydney opponents earlier in the season.
They have a massive mountain to climb on Monday night though, as both Marcus Stoinis (injury) and Trent Boult (departure) come out of the side. James Seymour will likely get another chance, especially after a match-winning 119 for Essendon against Richmond in Victorian Premier cricket on the weekend. As for the bowling replacement, any one of Brody Couch, Liam Hatcher or even Clint Hinchcliffe could come into the side.
Match Prediction
I so badly want to tip the Stars here given just how bad the Hurricanes bowling has been lately, but it’s hard to like this Melbourne side without two of their guns in Boult and Stoinis. The Hurricanes should win this one at home to keep their season alive against a depleted Stars side.
Same Game Multi
Going for a pretty stock standard same game multi for this game. I think there will be plenty of runs in this clash as both bowling attacks are pretty pedestrian. Ben McDermott, Joe Clarke and Caleb Jewell to score 15+ runs each is the play here.
Clarke is averaging 38.67 this season and has made 15+ in 5/7 games, while McDermott is coming off scores of 53, 57 and 28 in his last three knocks.
Ben McDermott 15+ Runs
Caleb Jewell 15+ Runs
Joe Clarke 15+ Runs
