Ballarat Cup Day is getting bigger and better every year and the 2024 edition looks to be a winner with large crowds and warm weather expected. From a punting perspective though, rain is due to set in so punters will have to monitor track conditions on the day. Race 1 will start at 12:15pm (AEDT) with the last of ten concluding at 5:40pm (AEDT). The Cup itself is Race 9 on the program, and my best three plays of the day are below!
Ballarat Racing Tips: Saturday, December 7th 2024
Race 2: Sportsbet Emerging Stars Final - 12:45pm (AEDT)
(3) Dream All Day looks like a smart mare on the up and she ran on very fast at this track when almost last on the turn last start (1st). That was a Good4 which she won’t get here but she has placed twice on Soft tracks already and she has also won over this distance. The only query for mine is that if Ballarat is a leader biased track early on in the day because she will get back.
(4) Juggernaut Joan has drawn the inside and has a first and two seconds to her name on Soft ground. She led and won last start at Geelong and she is drawn to lead again.
(2) Just For Show will roll forward from barrier 9 and he gets Craig Williams on for the first time. He has never missed a place and should be in the top three for a long way.
(3) Dream All Day
$2.10 (4 Units)
Race 9: Sportsbet Ballarat Cup - 5pm (AEDT)
(9) Bankers Choice is at any old odds but I reckon he is worth a very small play in the Cup. He was unlucky and never got out two starts back on Oaks Day and then I thought he was quite okay last start in the Cranbourne Cup when he made good late ground on a track that is hard to make good late splits on. Despite running 7th in that race, he was only beaten 3L by Globe and with another 200m, I reckon he would have placed at big odds.
He gets an extra 400m here so he will have more time to run on, on a track he is 1 win from 1 start on.
(8) Ain’tnodeeldun has won twice over this distance before and despite drawing wide in 16 I think he can run a good race. He won a jumpout on the Heavy last week and he has a very good third up record.
(11) Lady In Pink was 3rd but only beaten 1.75L in the Matriarch Stakes last start and she goes better on Soft tracks which she should get here.
(9) Bankers Choice E/W
$41/$8.00 (0.5U/1U)
Race 10: Brandt Handicap - 5:40pm (AEDT)
(5) The Open was backed to win at The Valley last week and then got caught wide in transit which gave him no hope of winning. The Payne stable have backed him up quick here and at each-way odds he can run a good race here I reckon. Over this distance he has always Placed and the horse has a good association with Billy Egan who has won 4 times from 7 starts when on top. He is second up and is over the odds.
(7) Brazen Lady was also unlucky last week at Cranbourne and almost got there after running on well over the final 200m. She stays at her favoured distance but the query may be the inside by the last race and she has drawn the one.
(19) Dual Pressure can Place if he gets a run (3rd emergency). He is 100 percent fit now, likes wet tracks and likes the distance. Almost got there at Cranbourne last start (3rd) and another 100m in distance looks of no concern.
(5) The Open E/W
$10/$3.20 (1 Unit)
