2023 AFL Grand Final Prop Bets
First Goal Scorer
Always good for a bit of fun is putting some spare change on the First Goal Scorer market, particularly on Grand Final day. And if you’re someone that loves to have a cheeky bet on this market, make sure to do it with Picklebet. They’re running a promotion on Saturday where they’ll pay you out as a winner if the player you bet on kicks the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd goal!
Obviously, there’s a lot of luck involved in landing a winner in this market, however, there is some form you can take into account. Joe Daniher has kicked 58 goals this season including five against the Magpies. Since joining Brisbane he’s kicked 15 goals against the Magpies from five matches, including 2+ in each of them. He’s also kicked the first goal of the match in two of his last three away matches against the Magpies.
Norm Smith Medal
To be successful in picking the Norm Smith Medal winner you will most likely need to be backing a player on the winning team. Only four times in AFL history has the Norm Smith Medal been awarded to a player on the losing team - Maurice Rioli (1982), Gary Ablett Sr. (1989), Nathan Buckley (2002), and Chris Judd (2005). However, this Grand Final looms as a genuine 50/50 and with that in mind I’m happy to back in a player from each team via the Ladbrokes Norm Smith Medal (Duos) market.
Collingwood – If the Magpies are to win then I like the chances of Jordan De Goey getting his hands on Norm. He was BOG in the Preliminary Final with 34 touches and 13 clearances and simply thrives in big matches.
Brisbane – This one is a little bit left field, but I believe there’s a world in which Harris Andrews has a Brian Lake (2013) type Grand Final and wins the award. Without the big body of Dan McStay in the Magpies forward line, Andrews may just run rampant and take intercept mark after intercept mark and prove to be the most influential player in a Lions win.

Total Points Market
This matchup features two teams that tend to play contrasting styles, with the Magpies thriving in the contest and getting plenty of numbers around the ball, compared to the Lions who prefer to play a more attacking brand and back themselves in to win a shootout. The current total points line is sitting at 167.5 at most agencies and that seems to be far too high considering recent trends. The two finals the Magpies have played in this season have resulted in total scores of just 111 and 115, while Lions’ games have finished with 198 and 142 points scored. It’s always a lot tougher to post big scores in finals footy when pressure is at its highest, and if you’re looking to have a play on the total points market, then taking the unders seems to be the more likely outcome.
