NBL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Illawarra Hawks vs Adelaide 36ers
Thursday 7:30pm AEDT, WIN Entertainment Centre
The Hawks entered the season with plenty of optimism after making it to the semi-finals in 2021-22 but that optimism has quickly faded into embarrassment as they enter Round 6 at 1-7. On Thursday they welcome another underwhelming team to the WIN Entertainment Centre in the form of the Adelaide 36ers. The 36ers were all the hype in the pre-season but have failed to deliver thus far with two wins from five games.
This will be the second meeting between these teams this season, but the first with the Hawks having homecourt advantage. The 36ers were relatively comfortable winners in their first meeting (90-80) and have been the better performing team since that clash. The 36ers have a clear talent edge over their opponents here and as long as they can bring the intensity on the defensive end, they should be coming away with a strong win to kick off Round 6.

Perth Wildcats vs Tasmania JackJumpers
Thursday 9:30pm AEDT, RAC Arena
After starting the season a perfect 3-0, it’s been all downhill for the Wildcats who have no lost four games on the spin. Bryce Cotton has been doing Bryce Cotton things on offence, but there’s been absolutely zero consistent threats around him. In contrast, the JackJumpers were slow out of the gates but quickly hit their straps to move to 4-3, before losing in a blowout to the Breakers last start.
Key members of the Wildcats squad admitted they have some serious issues after their recent loss to United. Not only are they inconsistent on the offensive end, but they’re also giving up easy looks going down the other way. On the other hand, the JackJumpers have plenty to be happy about despite going down to the Breakers last weekend. They already have one big win over the Wildcats this season and are a decent chance to make it 2-0 against them with another win on Thursday night.

Tasmania JackJumpers vs Brisbane Bullets
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, MyState Bank Arena
The JackJumpers bounced back from their poor loss against the Breakers with an impressive win against the Wildcats in Perth. They’ve now won five of their last six games and have moved into fifth spot on the ladder. They welcome the Bullets to MyState Bank Arena who have won their last two games after starting the season 0-5. Nathan Sobey has found his rhythm after a slow start due to injury and will need to be consistently great if his team is to sniff the finals this season.
While the Bullets are on a two-game win streak, both of those wins were against a Hawks team that are just not up to the level at the moment. The bullets are still yet to prove themselves against a strong team in this competition and don’t deserve to be as competitive as they are in the H2H market in my opinion. The JackJumpers should be winning this on their home floor.

Adelaide 36ers vs Perth Wildcats
Saturday 8pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The 36ers talked the talk during the week and back it up on Thursday night with a dominant win over the Hawks. They were without Craig Randall due to a chest injury, and they almost looked better on offence with the ball flinging around. In contrast, the Wildcats lost to the JackJumpers for the third straight time on Thursday night. They’ve lost five in a row since starting the season 3-0 and it seems some changes to either the roster or coaching staff are imminent.
The 36ers are clearly the more talented team in this matchup and their chances of winning are only enhanced with this being on their home deck. Regardless of whether or not Randall plays, the 36ers should be defeating the current version of the Wildcats if they’re to be considered a contender this season.

New Zealand Breakers vs Sydney Kings
Sunday 2pm AEDT, Spark Arena
The Breakers are thriving under new coach Mody Maor this season and enter this contest in particularly strong form. They’ve won six of their last seven games and have won each of their last two by 29+ points. Likewise, the Kings are playing well this campaign and are on a two-game win streak of their own. They held off a determined Taipans outfit in a thriller last weekend to take their season record to 6-2.
The big improvement for the Breakers this season has been on the defensive end. In their last three games they’ve conceded an average of 65.3 points per game. Obviously, the Kings have a lot more firepower than most teams in the competition, but the Breakers defence should be good enough to see the unders salute in the total points market.

Melbourne United vs S.E. Melbourne Phoenix
Sunday 4pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
Melbourne United were embarrassed in their opening game of the weekend against a Taipans outfit that just looked far more connected on both ends of the floor. United have done well to be able to win four games with their current roster in my opinion, and some changes to said roster ASAP wouldn’t surprise.
The Phoenix have gone a perfect 4-0 since getting their key players back on the court and look as though they’ll be one of the main contenders at the business end of the season. They’re in a lot better form than their Melbourne rivals and deserve to be the favourites in their first meeting of the season. I expect them to secure a comfortable win on Sunday afternoon.
