We had a productive Round 2 with our NBL betting tips, ending the round +3.5 units to take us to +1.3 units for the season. It could’ve been an even better weekend had the clash between the JackJumpers and the Bullets not gone to overtime, which saw our ‘total points under’ bet suffer a cruel fate.
Round 3 of the 2022-23 NBL season begins on Thursday night with the 36ers hosting the JackJumpers in Adelaide. That will be the first of eight games in Round 3, all of which we preview and bring you our best bets for right here!

NBL Round 3 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide 36ers vs Tasmania JackJumpers
Thursday 7:30pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The Adelaide 36ers return to Australian shores after pulling off the impossible over in the US and defeating the Phoenix Suns in an exhibition game. They weren’t able to double the dose against the OKC Thunder in their most recent outing, perhaps brining them back down to earth a touch. Meanwhile, the JackJumpers scored their first win of the campaign last start against the Bullets and will be hoping that will kickstart their season after beginning with three losses from as many games.
The 36ers will start as the overwhelming favourites in their first game of the season, and while they’re certainly the better team on paper and will be a contender at the business end, it’ll be hard for them to come out firing first up against a JackJumpers outfit that already has four games under their belt. The odds should be a lot close here in my opinion, so I’ll be taking the big JJ’s line.

Sydney Kings vs Cairns Taipans
Friday 7:30pm AEDT, Qudos Bank Arena
The Kings were in irresistible form in Round 2 as they defeated the Bullets by 10 in their first game, before embarrassing United by 20 in their second outing. The Kings are now 3-0 on the season and are in fantastic shape early on in their championship defence. In contrast, the Taipans have played some horrible basketball across their last two games. They tried their best to lose against a severely undermanned Phoenix before getting obliterated by the Hawks last start.
This has all the makings of an absolute bloodbath. The Kings know exactly who they are on both sides of the ball, while the Snakes are still figuring things out, particularly on offense where they’re just turning the ball over at an embarrassing rate. The home side should be far too good here.

Perth Wildcats vs Melbourne United
Friday 9:30pm AEDT, RAC Arena
Adelaide 36ers vs Illawarra Hawks
Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, Adelaide Entertainment Centre
The 36ers were brought back down to earth after their heroics in the USA. They were comfortably beaten by the sharpshooting JackJumpers in their first NBL game, going down 72-97. Likewise, the Hawks were losers in their most recent outing and have now lost two of their three games to start the new season.
The new-look and highly talented 36ers will have learned a lot from their opening game loss against the JackJumpers and should be a lot better now they have their first game out of the way. I’m anticipating a strong bounce back performance from one of the top championship fancies, which makes their small -4.5 line look a tasty play. Happy to back them in to cover that for a couple of units.

S.E. Melbourne Phoenix vs New Zealand Breakers
Saturday 8pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
The undermanned Phoenix collapsed in the fourth quarter of their loss against the Snakes last time out on the back of a whopping 26 turnovers, which is an unwanted new franchise record. In contrast, the Breakers rallied home hard at home against the JackJumpers last start in what was their first win of the season.
The Breakers are back on the road but will have plenty of confidence after getting that winning feeling against the JJ’s. They have a fantastic opportunity to make it back-to-back wins when they take on the struggling Phoenix. I think they can get the job done despite being the underdogs.

Melbourne United vs Tasmania JackJumpers
Sunday 2pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
Melbourne United bounced back from their horrible loss to the Kings in fantastic fashion to defeat the Wildcats in the Jungle on Friday night. Intensity on the defensive end was clearly their focus after giving up 91 and 97 points in their opening two games. They now host the JackJumpers who are in some winning form having saluted in each of their last two outings after starting the season 0-2.
The JackJumpers defensive style of play has shone through in their last three games when giving up an average of 73 points a night. They’ll look to make this clash against United another grind, which should see the total points go under the current line 164.5, which just looks too high.

Brisbane Bullets vs Sydney Kings
Sunday 4pm AEDT, Nissan Arena
The Bullets made all the big moves in the off-season in hope of becoming a championship contender, yet they stand at 0-3 and are at risk of letting their season slip away. Meanwhile, the Kings are coming off a disappointing loss of their own against the Wildcats in Round 3 where they started at whopping 10.5 point favourites.
Both teams will be looking to bring intensity into this ball game to bounce back from some poor recent performances. This should lead to some solid defence that usually results in a tight, low-scoring ball game. With that said, I’ll be taking a small play on the unders to close out Sunday’s action.
