Match Prediction
Brisbane head to the Adelaide Oval fresh off a statement win over Geelong, a 44 point win to snap Geelong’s six game winning streak was proof that the Lions are capable of winning it all this season. The Lion’s stifled the Cats key forward trio of Hawkins, Cameron and Rowan, holding them to just three goals in an impressive defensive performance.
For Adelaide, it was a disappointing loss to the struggling Carlton as an eight goal to three second quarter proved the difference in the match. Adelaide were poor using the ball inside fifty, and struggled with Carlton’s pressure. It would have Crows supporters very concerned given those were two areas Brisbane excelled in last week against the Cats.
Brisbane’s forward line has been outstanding in recent weeks. Daniher (4 goals vs Geelong), Eric Hipwood and Daniel McStay all stretch the opposition's tall defenders with their height and speed, whilst Charlie Cameron (3 goals vs Geelong) and Lincoln McCarthy cause chaos at ground level. The three key forwards could seriously stretch Adelaide, with Tom Doedee and Jake Kelly likely to be seriously undersized in their matchups.
Daniel Rich carved up the Cats off half back with 25 disposals and 641 metres gained, and if Adelaide can’t reduce his impact in setting up Brisbane’s attack, they’re going to struggle to stay in this match.
Adelaide are an aggressive side with their ball movement, particularly at Adelaide Oval. Whilst it’s exciting when it comes off, it will give this excellent Brisbane side plenty of opportunities to create forward half turnovers. The clearance battle is another major advantage for the Lions who rank third in the comp for clearances, where the Crows only rank tenth. Oscar McInerney (9 clearances vs Geelong), Jarryd Lyons (5) and Hugh McCluggage (4) gave the Lions forwards excellent looks off the back of their stoppage work.
Brisbane have won ten of their last eleven matches, only losing to Melbourne in that period, they’ve also won their last two against Adelaide and will be full of confidence heading into this clash. The advantage they have throughout the midfield is massive, and their key forwards could run riot on an undersized Adelaide defence and with four of Brisbane's last five wins being over 25 points, the line looks the way to go in this clash.

With Lachie Neale struggling with form and fitness this season, Jarryd Lyons has picked up the slack averaging 28 disposals per game in 2021. Lyons has hit the 25 plus disposal mark in seven out of his last eight games, with his one miss being a 24 disposal game. Ben Keays has rejuvenated his career since moving to Adelaide last year and is having a career best year. Keays has gone past 25 disposals in nine of his last ten matches and is averaging 28 disposals this season. Keays will be keen to produce against his former club. Rounding out the multi we’ve got Lincoln Mccarthy as an anytime goal scorer. McCarthy has been in good form in the last month, kicking seven goals from his last four games. McCarthy has only gone goalless once in his last ten games, and is a very safe option to round it out.
