Just the one game on Sunday in the AFL this week and while it’s not a blockbuster, it’s all we’ve got. PuntingInDanger is here to guide you through the game in full and give his preview and AFL tips below.
AFL Hawthorn vs Essendon Betting Tips
University of Tasmania Stadium, Sunday 3.20pm (AEST)
Tasmania will get another AFL game on Sunday, making it two for the weekend in what has to be the first time in AFL history? Someone do the research on that for me.
Match Prediction
The Hawks had what could have been a season defining win in Round 13, taking it to the Swans on Friday night to run out by 38 points in a massive upset. They still sit in 17th place on the ladder but does the win signal their intentions to be as competitive as possible this year and not go into full rebuild mode as we’d previously suggested?
They are certainly good signs for the Hawks, who have a strong injury list with only the likes of James Sicily, James Worpel, Harry Morrison, Jack Gunston and Mitch Lewis out of their best 22 at the moment. By no means will they be pushing for the top 8, but a win here would certainly rattle the cage of one of their greatest foes and greatly decrease the chance of the Bombers making finals, which is something the Hawks will be excited about.
The Bombers were coming off a three game winning streak when they came up against the Tigers in Round 12. They were competitive throughout the match but Richmond ultimately ran away 39 point winners, sending the Dons to 5-7 on the season.
The Bombers will be thankful for the bye in Round 12, which gave some key players valuable rest time and will allow the likes of Tom Cutler, Devon Smith and Peter Wright to find their way back into the side.
Tough game to call here. Even though the Hawks are in 17th place on the ladder, I think they are pretty evenly matched with the Bombers on paper. However, I’m happy to give the slight edge to Essendon given they will have the extra week of rest and I think it should be difficult for the Hawks to back up such a spirited effort with another one just a week later. Not super confident in this game one way or another so it’ll just be a one unit play from me.

Darcy Parish has been bringing his own footy to games this season. He averages 31.4 touches per game and in his last five he has racked up 35, 39, 36, 36 and 44. Monster numbers and should cruise past 30 this week, as should Tom Mitchell. Titch has been at his accumulating best this season, averaging 33.5 touches per game and racking up 30+ in eight games. Jaeger O’Meara has accumulated 20+ touches in every game this season and is the bump we need to get us over the $2.00 mark in our SGM.
