2019 NRL: Round 14 Preview & Betting Tips

June 12th 2019, 6:15pm, By: matta91

The 2019 NRL season continues this weekend with a full eight game slate! Matta91 is back to take a look at every game in Round 14 of the season and give his betting tips below!

NRL Round 14 Betting Tips

Canberra Raiders vs Cronulla Sharks (Thursday, Jun 13 7:50pm)

A top eight battle headlines Thursday night football as the 8-5 Raiders take on the 7-5 Sharks in Canberra. The Raiders earned their 3rd shutout of the season, at Bankwest last week in a 28-0 thrashing of the Tigers. Meanwhile, the Sharks put up plenty of points on the Eels at home and have the benefit of their star players returning from the sidelines. But this should be a tough matchup against the Raiders much-improved defence. In their 7 home games this year, Canberra allow just 14 pgg and that should help them keep the Sharks attack at bay. The Under total is enjoying a nice trend at GIO Stadium in 2019 with a 5-1 record and that looks the best play between two top eight sides. The Sharks also hold a 4-1 Unders record when they're underdogs against the Raiders.

Gold Coast Titans vs New Zealand Warriors (Friday, Jun 14 6:00pm)

Two of the most inconsistent teams in the NRL meet in this clash with the 4-9 Titans against the 4-8 Warriors. The Gold Coast are coming off an upset of the Broncos at Suncorp but their record against the Warriors sees them with the underdog tag. Since 2010, the Warriors are 15-5 SU and 7-1 SU at this venue. But at the moment, you cannot confidently back the Warriors to produce the goods. So with two of the worst defensive teams in the NRL facing each other, you'd figure this should go Over the total. On the Gold Coast, 7 of the last 10 meetings have beaten the total and I don't see that changing this Friday.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Wests Tigers (Friday, Jun 14 7:55pm)

Despite playing in Townsville, the Tigers will likely enjoy a matchup against a non-top 8 side. In recent weeks, they've been smashed by the Raiders and Souths as well as overrun by the Storm. On the other hand, the Cowboys have played in two straight nail-biters, which includes a 2 point loss at this venue last week against Manly (22-20). The money is on the Cowboys to win this at the moment as they should take advantage of the Tigers poor defence. Which also says this matchup should go Over the total. It's 4-2 when these two sides meet in Townsville.

Melbourne Storm vs Newcastle Knights (Saturday, Jun 15 3:00pm)

AAMI Park features the game of the round on Saturday afternoon as the 10-2 Storm take on the 7-5 Knights. Day football should bring out the best attack in both sides so this should be an entertaining affair. Newcastle are the hottest team in the NRL at the moment with 6 straight wins but they'll need to overturn a poor record against the Storm. They've been well beaten in the last 2 at this venue and hold a 3-14 SU record since 2010. Melbourne comes into this game with 4 straight wins and they sit comfortably atop the ladder, which is not an unknown sight. Interestingly, Melbourne haven't played at this venue since mid-May and their last 4 home games have all been decided by under 3 points. So in a clash between two in-form sides, it's hard to split them and this should finish with a close margin.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Penrith Panthers (Saturday, Jun 15 5:30pm)

The Panthers are riding a 3 game winning streak and the fixture has definitely helped them out. They met the injury and Origin riddled Roosters last week and now face a similar situation against Souths. South Sydney's lineup has been all over the shop as they try to juggle this tough Origin period. So that gives the Panthers a great chance of an upset. They played South Sydney earlier in the season at Panthers Stadium and just went down by 4 points. Meanwhile, Souths are just 7-15 ATS as a home favourite and it's even worse after a loss (3-13). Panthers to cover here.

Parramatta Eels vs Brisbane Broncos (Saturday, Jun 15 7:35pm)

Super Saturday concludes with the Eels and Broncos both looking to bounce back. Parramatta were awfully bad in Cronulla as they lost 42-22 and Brisbane couldn't stop the Titans at Suncorp. But despite the Eels performance last week, they always seem to bounce back when they're playing at Bankwest. They've won 3 of 4 at the new Stadium in 2019 and with the Broncos carrying a few injuries, Parramatta are paying good odds to take this home game. Those injuries for Brisbane include halfback Tom Dearden so with Sean O'Sullivan inexperienced at the top level, that could be their downfall especially in attack.

Manly Sea Eagles vs St George Dragons (Sunday, Jun 16 2:00pm)

Manly returns to Brookvale Oval on Sunday afternoon as they face the resurgent Dragons. Corey Norman proved his worth for the red and white as they smashed the Bulldogs on Monday, 36-12. So he'll be the key factor if the Dragons are to upset Manly. The Sea Eagles rallied on the road last week as they downed the Cowboys by just 2 points. They'll be keen to rebound from a disappointing 36-18 loss at this venue previously as well. With DCE and Tom Trbojevic back in the lineup, they should be very confident of a better performance. So with both sides looking back to full strength lineups, this should be a fairly high scoring affair in Day conditions. Manly has scored 13+ in 4 of 5 games at this venue in 2019 and the Dragons have scored 30+ in 3 of the last 4 against Manly.

Sydney Roosters vs Canterbury Bulldogs (Sunday, Jun 16 4:50pm)

NRL action for Round 14 concludes at the SCG with the 8-4 Roosters against the 3-10 Bulldogs. The Roosters welcome back some firepower with Mitchell and Crichton after the pair were rested in last week's 19-10 loss against the Panthers. It was the same old story for the Bulldogs last round as the Dragons punished them 36-12. So obviously, they're at long odds to beat the Roosters on their home turf. This matchup will likely see the Roosters cruise to victory but there's just no value in the line at this stage.
