Round 6 of the NRL season gets underway this Thursday and is set to be a great slate of games! We are back with a full betting preview of all the Round 6 matchups below.
NRL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Sydney Roosters vs South Sydney Rabbitohs (Thursday, Apr 12 7:50pm AEST)
Round 6 begins with the rivalry matchup between the Roosters and Rabbitohs at Allianz Stadium. The Roosters are coming off a comfortable victory over the Sharks 28-10. Cooper Cronk dominated the Sharks defence and the outside backs reaped the benefits. For the Rabbitohs, they lost a close one against the Dragons 16-12. So they should be confident of keeping the Roosters attack quiet. The last meeting was a 14-12 win for the Roosters so after a 4 point loss against the Dragons, the line is achievable for Souths. They’re already 4-1 ATS this season and this should be a close contest.
TIP: Rabbitohs +8.5 - $1.92 at Ladbrokes
Melbourne Storm vs Newcastle Knights (Friday, Apr 13 6:00pm AEST)
Friday night footy starts in Melbourne and the Storm will be looking to rebound after an 11-10 loss against the Tigers. The departure of Cronk has shown as the Storm have struggled in attack. They’ve scored just 14 total points in their last two losses. As a result, they’ve dropped Brodie Croft and Ryley Jacks starts at halfback. But the Knights are a team they like playing. Last season, they won both clashes 13+ and scored 40 in each. The Knights are prone for giving up points as they’ve lost 30-12 (Dragons) and 38-8 (Roosters) in recent weeks. They have a 2-5 record at AAMI Park and Melbourne has an 8-3 ATS record after a loss. I don’t see the Storm winning by 13+ this time so it finish under 1-12 points in the Storm’s favour.
TIP: Storm 1-12 - $3.30 at CrownBet
St George Dragons vs Cronulla Sharks (Friday, Apr 13 7:50pm AEST)
The Dragons and Sharks meet once again this season. They met in Round 2 and the Dragons just prevailed 20-16. St George continued their undefeated streak with a 16-12 win over the Rabbitohs last week. While the Sharks lost 28-10 against the Roosters. In the last 3 meetings between the sides, the margin has been decided by 1-12 so it’s likely going to be another close contest. But in the end, the Dragons are 4-1 ATS this season and the Sharks lack the scoring options to trouble the Dragons defence.
TIP: Dragons 1-12 - $3.15 at CrownBet
New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos (Saturday, Apr 14 3:00pm AEST)
The Warriors are undefeated and this side is hard to stop at the moment. So that’s doesn’t bode well for the struggling Broncos. They’re going to rue the Ben Hunt departure as they’ve looked poor in attack all season. The Warriors are 2-0 against them in New Zealand and they covered the line in each. They’re also 5-0 ATS this season and the Broncos are just 1-4 ATS.
TIP: Warriors -5.5 - $1.92 at Ladbrokes
North Queensland Cowboys vs Canterbury Bulldogs (Saturday, Apr 14 5:30pm AEST)
The Cowboys and Bulldogs are both 1-4 on the season so this is a crucial matchup. The Cowboys should be the slightly more confident side as they’re 5-0 straight up against the Bulldogs and back at home this week. However, both sides average around 16 points per match and allow 25 points against. So the Bulldogs should be able to keep it close. I can’t see them winning though and the Cowboys at 1-12 is good value.
TIP: Cowboys 1-12 - $3.30 at CrownBet
Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels (Saturday, Apr 14 7:30pm AEST)
The Raiders got on the board last week but the Eels are still winless. Despite a 1-4 record, the Raiders have easily been the better side of the two. They smashed the Bulldogs at home last week and will be back in Canberra in Round 6. They average 23 points scored and will face the Eels poor defence. They rank 2nd last in the NRL for points allowed and last in the NRL for points scored. So it’s highly unlikely that will change in Canberra. The Raiders also get extra rest after a Thursday match and they’re 6-0 against the Eels at home.
TIP: Raiders -3.5 - $1.92 at Ladbrokes
Penrith Panthers vs Gold Coast Titans (Sunday, Apr 15 2:00pm AEST)
Sunday afternoon footy returns to Penrith with an interesting clash between the Panthers and Titans. After a 54-8 loss against the Dragons, the Titans have responded with wins over the Sea Eagles and Broncos. While for the Panthers, they’re 4-1 and they’re coming off a 12-6 win over the Eels. At home, they won the last clash against the Titans 24-16. So the 1-12 margin is good value. The travel factor will probably come back to hurt the Titans and they are ranked last in the NRL for points allowed. But winning form is the key and they should be able to keep this close. I can't see them causing an upset so the Panthers are good value at home by 1-12 points.
TIP: Panthers 1-12 - $3.20 at CrownBet
Manly Sea Eagles vs Wests Tigers (Sunday, Apr 15 4:10pm AEST)
The last match of the round is at Brookvale Oval and the Sea Eagles have dominated at home this season. They’ve beaten the Raiders 32-16 and the Eels 54-0. But both of those sides are near the bottom of the ladder and the Tigers own the best defence in the NRL. They’ve already beaten the Storm twice and will be confident of another upset. Wests have only lost once this season, which was in golden point. But they do need to overturn a 1-6 record at Brookvale Oval. However, they have won 2 of the last 3 so I’m predicting a close result. Their defence is looking strong enough to stop the Sea Eagles. In the end, this is probably the toughest game to predict so I'll stick with either team to win by under 8.5 points.
TIP: Either Team Under 8.5 Points - $2.10 at CrownBet
