Comparing a team who has never ever made the Stanley Cup Final to one who took it down in 2009 may look very one-sided and not worthy of much of a conversation. This could not be further from the truth when deciding between the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks, with both teams coming into the deciding series at 12 wins and 6 losses. Throughout the regular season, both teams have managed two wins from four games, interestingly all when they have been visiting their opponent’s home ice.
Stand-out players coming into this series included Pens captain Sidney Crosby, who has helped fuse his team into the seemingly unstoppable playoffs force and always seems to be in the midst of Pittsburgh forward pressure. For the Sharks, they may have secured the best trade of the season acquiring Martin Jones from the LA Kings. Jones has been in stellar form between the pipes for San Jose this season, averaging 2.27 Goals Against and a Playoff Save Percentage of 0.919%.
Not many were predicting for these two teams to make it all the way to the cup final. The Sharks will need to shake off the pressure of appearing in their first ever cup series, and this task may be too big for them to handle if they fall a few wins behind the Penguins right from the get-go. Going into the playoffs, we mentioned Pittsburgh being one of the most exciting teams at the beginning of the round of 16, and we see no reason why they can't use their finals experience to their advantage and bring home the silverware.
The Pittsburgh Penguins to be the 2015/2016 Stanley Cup Champions in under 7 games.
