The Group 1 Melbourne Cup is pinnacle of horse racing in Australia, with the race often referred to as “the race that stops a nation", but with increasing numbers of international raiders, it is becoming the race that stops the world.
The 2019 Melbourne Cup will be held at Flemington Racecourse on Tuesday, November 5th. The final field of 24 has been decided and the barrier draw has been conducted. Following the barrier draw, Caulfield Cup winner Mer De Glace has been installed as the $6.50 favourite. The lone Japanese representative in the race will be aiming to make it a clean sweep for Japan in the Melbourne Spring features.
Constantinople was luckless on his Australian debut in the Caulfield Cup. He draws ideally in barrier 7 and remains the only other runner in single figures at $8.00. Another locally trained runner without much luck in the Caulfield Cup was Finche. The Chris-Waller trained charge has drawn barrier 4 and is a $10 chance.
The locally-bred Vow And Declare has drawn wide in barrier 21 and is a $12 chance in betting markets, followed by 2018 winner Cross Counter and the Aiden O'Brien-trained Il Paradiso at $14.
