2015-16 A-League: Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips

November 19th 2015, 1:10pm, By: C.McGregor9

A big week for the A-league saw Sydney FC suffer their first loss of the season in a Grand Final rematch and Brisbane Roar return to the top of the table. Continue reading for this week’s A-league round 7 Preview and Betting Tips.

Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners (Thursday 8pm AEDT)

The Victory were at their attacking best against Sydney FC last weekend as they were able to put four goals past the strongest defence in the league. Besart Berisha has found tremendous form and he has scored 13 goals in his last 14 games in all competitions. The team is creating opportunities and he is making the most of them.

The Mariners put their best defensive performance of the season against the Jets and they were down 10 men, it could have helped that they were forced to sit back and readjust their game plan. They should bring a similar plan to this match as they take on a team that will be pressing for goals and their best opportunities could come on the break. However, the Victory are clearly a level above the rest of the league and the Mariners haven’t picked up a victory in their last 18 away games in the A-league and have lost their last five matches against the Victory and in four of those matches they conceded 3 goals.

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City (Friday 8pm AEDT)

The Roar have returned to the top of the table as they continue to surprise the league and prove their critics wrong despite the off field dramas surrounding the club. They have only lost the won game and have won all three matches at home this season.

Meanwhile, Melbourne City suffered a huge loss at home last weekend to the Wanderers and have been inconsistent throughout the year. To make the task harder for the away side they will have to play the majority or all of the match without their best and most creative player Aaron Mooy who was required for Socceroo duties throughout the week. The Roar will produce the goods at home and pick up the victory in this one.

TIP: Roar @ $2.10 with Sportsbet

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix (Saturday 5.15pm AEDT)

The Wanderers enter the match this weekend on a three game winning streak and they are beginning to prove that all the changes they made throughout the offseason was the correct decision as the team is beginning to gel nicely. Mitch Nichols has been dominant for the side and if he isn’t scoring goals then he is creating them for his teammates. The side are real contenders to make the finals and they will be glad to be playing at home in front of one of the strongest fan bases in the A-league.

The Phoenix also picked up a big win last weekend but it was against an Adelaide side that is winless this season. They were able to score four goals but have struggled in that area in previous games and the Wanderers offer more in defence and will be able to hold them out and pick up the victory.

TIP: Wanderers @ $1.80 with WilliamHill

Perth Glory vs Sydney FC (Saturday 7.30pm AEDT)

The Glory have picked up just the one win this season against Adelaide and other than that match they have suffered a loss. They have struggled in attack and have failed to find the back of the net in their last two matches. Their task is made harder as they come up against the Sky Blues who will be wanting to bounce back strongly after their defeat to the Melbourne Victory last weekend.

Sydney FC will come out strong and their away record is incredibly strong as they have picked up 10 consecutive regular season road wins and haven’t lost in their last 17 away regular season matches. They will be able to pick up a comfortable win in this one.

TIP: Sydney FC @ $2.24 with Crownbet

Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets (Sunday 5pm AEDT)

The home side remains winless after the opening six matches and they are currently on a four game losing streak and over that period they have conceded a whopping 14 goals. They will need to fix their defence if they are going to turn their season around. Meanwhile, the Jets have only failed to score a goal on one occasion this season, however they do the majority of their damage in the second half and they have only scored one goal in the opening 45 minutes. They will be looking to change that around on the road and with Adelaide finding it extremely difficult to keep the ball out of the back of the net, the Jets will pick up the three points.

TIP: Jets @ $4.60 with MadBookie
