AFL Geelong vs Richmond Tips
MCG, Sunday 25th July 3:20pm (AEST)
Last season’s Grand Finalists, Geelong and Richmond, will do battle this weekend for the second time this season. The Cats have had the far better season to date and also got the chocolates the first time around, which is the reason why they’ll start as the red-hot favourites on Sunday at the MCG.
Match Prediction
Geelong made extremely light work of the Dockers despite being on the road last weekend, defeating them by 69 points via a 100-31 scoreline. That win was the Cats third in a row since they were outmatched by the Lions in Round 15. They’ve now won nine of their last 10 games and have moved within top spot of the ladder with five matches still to come.
Richmond recently endured their worst losing run since becoming a dominant force in the league four years ago. They lost all four of their games between Round 13-17 and only one of those losses came against a top eight team, which was the Eagles in Round 13. Importantly, the Tigers were able to get back on the winners list last weekend against the Lions, controlling the game after half time to win by 20 points and stay in touch with the top eight.
Both clubs are missing key players for their clash on Sunday afternoon. The Cats will be without stars Jeremy Cameron and Mitch Duncan, both of whom may well miss the rest of the regular season. For the Tigers, Dustin Martin is the big out with the 3x Norm Smith Medallist set to be on the sidelines for the rest of the year due to a kidney injury. Key players also missing for the Tigers this week are Noah Balta, Nathan Broad, Bachar Houli, Dion Prestia and Nick Vlastuin.
What a match we have on our hands here between last year’s Grand Finalists. The Cats got some revenge earlier in the season with a thumping win over the Tigers to the tune of 63 points and will be confident of completing the season double; whereas, on the other hand, the Tigers are coming off a potentially momentum-building win over the Lions last weekend and will be desperate to back it up in virtually another must-win match on Sunday. It’s certainly a tough one to call, but with all things considered, we have to lean towards the class of the Cats to get the job done in a tight one.
Same Game Multi
We’re back with our Same Game Multis for Round 19 and have a decent one for you right here with three promising legs.
For the first leg we’ll be taking Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin for 20 or more disposals. He stepped up when his team needed him last weekend with 22 touches and we expect more of the same this Sunday. Similarly, we’ll be on Kane Lambert for 20+ disposals, which he’s achieved in all but one of his games this season and that was in Round 6 when he came off injured. Finally, we’ll be including Gryan Miers to kick a goal at any time. The small forward has jagged at least one goal in all but one of his games this season and should get a couple of chances again this weekend.
