2021 Tokyo Olympics: Tennis Preview & Betting Tips

July 23rd 2021, 11:18pm, By: SmitsTips

Olympic Tennis Betting Tips

There’s plenty to look forward to over the next couple of weeks at the Olympics, especially if you’re a tennis fan. Both the men’s and women’s draw are stacked with talent as the top players in the world look to make the most of an event that takes place just once every four years. Here, we bring you our best bet to take home the Gold Medal in both the men’s and women’s draw.

2021 Tokyo Olympics: Tennis Betting Tips

Men’s Gold Medal

Most of the big boys in the world of men’s tennis have put their name in the hat for the Olympics, but there are a few notable absentees. Most notably, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who share one Gold Medal between them (Nadal, Beijing 2008), are not in the draw and will not be taking place, however, world #1 and the winner of all three slams so far this season in Novak Djokovic is in the mix and he’s the odds-on favourite at around $1.60 at most betting agencies.

Djokovic, now the equal leader in Grand Slams won with 20 alongside Federer and Nadal, is the obvious pick to win his first ever Gold Medal and we certainly aren’t keen to bet against him. The great man has dominated hard courts for over a decade now and with Tokyo 2021 being on hard court, you simply cannot go around him, even at the short odds he’s priced at. If, for some reason you are prepared to go somewhere else, then we don’t mind the price of Alexander Zverev at around $7. Zverev has won plenty of titles in his young career and made his mark in Grand Slams this campaign and plays his best tennis on the hard court, which gives him a chance if Djokovic is to somehow bottle this event.

Women’s Gold Medal

On the women’s side we have most of the champion players suiting up to play for their countries, although there are a few top players that won’t be taking part. Serena Williams is the most notable miss of this draw, with the 23-time Grand Slam champion missing due to personal reasons. At the time of writing, Japan’s Naomi Osaka leads the charge in terms of the betting market, while Australia’s Ash Barty is on the second line of betting.

At the time of writing, there’s a lot up in the air about Naomi Osaka’s place in the women’s draw at Tokyo and she’s the favourite at the bookies. Regardless, we simply have to pick Australia’s Ash Barty to back up her Wimbledon triumph with a Gold Medal at the Olympics. She’s been Australia’s hero in tennis for many years now and is at the peak of her powers. Barty is a terrific player on all surfaces and if anyone is going to handle the hype of the Olympics, it’s her.
