UEFA Champions League: Round of 16 Betting Tips (2nd Leg)
Chelsea vs Borussia Dortmund
Wednesday 7am AEDT, March 8th
Dortmund were able to make the most of home ground advantage in the first leg which they won 1-0. It certainly wasn’t the most convincing of wins to the eye, and the stats will back that up as they managed only two shots on target compared to Chelsea’s eight. Regardless, Dortmund will head to Stamford Bridge with something to protect.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will take plenty of positive from the first leg despite the result. They controlled the fixture for the most part but were unable to find the back of the net, which is something that has plagued them in the Premier League this campaign. In fact, the Blues have only scored twice in their last seven games in major competitions.
Despite their poor record in front of goal recently, Chelsea showed enough in the first leg to start as odds-on favourites in the return home leg. They will have the added confidence of securing a win in the Premier League on the weekend and should be able to go on with it midweek against an inferior Dortmund outfit.
Tottenham vs AC Milan
Thursday 7am AEDT, March 9th
Tottenham will be hoping for better fortune when they return home for the second leg of their tie with AC Milan. The Spurs were defeated 1-0 at the San Siro on the back of a Brahim Diaz strike in the 7th minute. It was a game that could’ve gone either way and perhaps the Spurs will feel a bit hard done by after winning most important statistics.
The Spurs were able to bounce back from that defeat immediately in the Premier League with impressive wins over Chelsea and West Ham, before having their momentum stalled in a 1-0 away loss against Wolves most recently. The Spurs have lost four straight games on the road in all competitions, so they’ll be relieved to be back on their home deck on Wednesday morning where they’ve won three in a row without conceding a goal.
AC Milan are a dangerous outfit on their day but their form in both the UCL and the Serie A this campaign has been inconsistent at best. They’ve won only five times on the road from 14 attempts in their domestic league this season, and that sort of form won’t cut it against one of the better Premier League teams in a must-win game.
Bayern Munich vs PSG
Thursday 7am AEDT, March 9th
Bayern Munich’s incredible form in the Champions League this campaign continued their first leg against PSG, which they were able to win 1-0 despite being the visiting team. This puts them firmly in the box seat to progress to the last eight for the fourth consecutive season.
Munich have been a dominant force this UCL and are the only team that’s won all seven matches. In fact, they’ve only conceded twice so far and have six clean sheets to their name.
Meanwhile, PSG will be looking to make a better account for themselves after what was an embarrassing performance in the first leg. They managed just four attempts on target compared to Munich’s 18, which is simply not good enough considering the amazing firepower they have at their disposal.
Munich have had the wood over PSG in the Champions League for a number of years now and are the deserving favourites to secure another win on Thursday morning. I expect them to be able to negotiate their way through another tricky test.

Manchester City vs RB Leipzig
Wednesday 7am AEDT, 15th March
Manchester City were unable to get the job done in the away leg against RB Leipzig which finished 1-1, so they’ll have to put their best foot forward in the return leg to ensure a quarterfinal berth.
The Citizens were the better team in the first leg and the stats certainly support that. They won the shot count 12-7 and had the majority of possession (62%-38%).
Grinding out results in away games in the Champions League has been a struggle for City in recent seasons and is the main reason why they haven’t been able to lift the trophy. This campaign for instance, they’ve won all three UCL home matches, but have saluted in just one of four on the road.
Being back at the Etihad is a big plus for City and providing they take their chances, they should be far too good for Leipzig.

Napoli vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Thursday 7am AEDT, 16th March
Napoli came away with a convincing 2-0 win away against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg and are now well and truly in the box seat to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Not only have Napoli been one of the most dominant teams in the UCL this season with six wins in seven games, but they’ve also arguably been the most dominant team in the top five leagues in Europe. They’re 18 points clear at the top of the Serie A right now with an amazing 22-2-2 record.
Meanwhile, Frankfurt have stumbled their way to the Round of 16 and have only won 14/31 games in major competitions this season.
Being 2-0 down and on the road, Frankfurt virtually have nothing to lose and will likely go out all guns blazing. They’ll probably suffer a heavy defeat playing this way, but they should be able to score at least one goal.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool
Thursday 7am AEDT, 16th March
The first leg of this Round of 16 tie was a crazy one to say the least. Liverpool played hosts and got off to the perfect start by scoring two quick goals, however it was Real Madrid who then took over the match and proceeded to score five unanswered goals to leave the Anfield crowd stunned.
As a result of the first leg, this matchup is effectively over unless Liverpool can pull of one of the greatest second leg comebacks we’ve seen in the Champions League.
What you can expect from Liverpool in the second leg however, is for them to start with an ultra-aggressive line-up and look to score one or two early goals to give themselves a chance. This will also allow Real Madrid to hit them on the counter which they can do so well with some of the elite explosive athletes they have up top.
With all of that said, there should be plenty of goals in this one.
