Bellator 138 – Saturday 20th June 10am AEST from St Louis, Missouri
Kimbo Slice (4-2) vs Ken Shamrock (28-15-2)
This fight between the most famous street fighter ever and a 51-year old former WWF wrestler and UFC Hall of Famer was supposed to happen seven years ago but was scrapped just hours before the bell was scheduled to ring. Depending on who’s story you believe, Shamrock pulled out either due to a freak cut sustained while warming up or because someone showed him footage of Kimbo murking people on YouTube.
The matchup is a pretty straightforward wrestler versus grappler affair, but neither of the two combatants have stepped foot in a cage in the last five years, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what kind of shape they are in. The combination of Kimbo’s earth-shattering power and Shamrock’s glass chin mean it’s probably going to be a bad night for the self proclaimed ‘worlds most dangerous man’.
Shamrock’s hopes hinge on him being able to take Kimbo down and hold on for dear life. However he will be giving away a significant size advantage so that will be no mean feat. One thing on Ken’s side is he does look in fantastic shape and reports out of the San Diego Combat Academy are that he’s training incredibly hard for this one.
Prediction: This is a really hard one to recommended laying any juice on as we just haven’t seen enough out of these guys in recent times. If Shamrock can get the takedown, he is a decent chance of keeping the fight there; so the over 1.5 rounds ($3.20 at Sportsbet) might be a decent value play. But towards the end of Ken’s career he was regularly knocked out in the first round to vastly inferior strikers to Kimbo, so I think Kimbo ends this one early with a right hook. Kimbo is paying $1.38 for the victory at Luxbet.
Bet: Kimbo Slice Win by KO/TKO
