Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday March 18th

March 16th 2023, 11:44pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Moonee Valley Racing Tips

The Valley will host a 10-race program on Saturday with Group racing again on the card with some high-quality horses going around.

The All-Star Mile is a feature as is the Typhoon Tracy Stake and Alister Clark Stakes, and The Country to City Series Final will conclude the race day at 6:10pm.

Gallopers will be running on a Good surface in 34-degree heat, but it may be the wind that makes it interesting with 30-40kmph winds forecast which may mean some horses may want cover in the run.

Brendan Bunworth has picked out his four best Moonee Valley tips below, and if you're looking for a new site for your racing bets, then give betr a try!

Moonee Valley Racing Tips – Saturday, March 18th 2023

Race 1

(1) Midwest is back to a distance that he has won 5 from 12 on. He is 2 from 2 at The Valley but it's the 1000m distance that is the attraction after a gallant 1100m effort last start in Sydney (2nd). He loves Good tracks and he loves leading and from barrier 5 i think he can lead all of the way. The query however is if he's exposed to strong winds up front. Maybe bet late and monitor conditions.

(2) Scissor Step goes well fresh and is having his first run for his new stable (Tony & Calvin McEvoy). He has won over the track and distance previously and will be pressuring Midwest for the duration.

(3) Sartorial Splendor likes it here and will likely settle 2nd or 3rd in the run. Won a jumpout at Pakenham on Wednesday.

(4) Mynumerouno will start 2nd favourite after winning 3 of his 4 races on Good tracks. Has won 2 from 2 here.

(1) Midwest - WIN

$2 (4 Units)

Race 6

(2) In The Boat is 3 from 3 over the distance and gets a favourable Good surface here after meeting Slow tracks in the Spring. He has won 2 of 3 jumpouts this campaign and there were some quality gallopers in those trials. Is fitter than most of those who present first up.

(1) Lombardo has a tricky barrier in 11 but has won 4 of 7 races over the 1200m. Zac Spain has won 3 races on him and knows him well.

(5) Lady of Hounour will roll forward like she did last campaign but there may be a lot of pressure on early. Has won first up previously.

(6) She’s All Class may get a cozy run from barrier 1 and might be able to save ground. A good track is a slight concern for a winning possibility.

(2) In The Boat - WIN

$4.20 (2 Units)

Race 7 – The All-Star Mile

(1) I’m Thunderstruck has drawn nicely in 5 and although he will get back, if the wind is blowing as expected, outside with cover might be the place to be. The mile distance suits, and in a race where there looks to be plenty of toe, he will get the last crack at them. He is fitter now and he has won around the tight Valley circuit before so that should hold no issues. He is a risky play for a straight out win bet but I’m confident that he will place.

(2) Alligator Blood can’t be written off and despite there being plenty of pace in the race will obviously roll forward again. Again, the worry is the last 100m for him but he has surprised me of just how good he is over the last 12 months.

(4) Mr Brightside will likely sit around 4th or 5th the rails in this race after the Hayes team drew barrier 2. He has won 7 from 11 over the 1600m and he is 2 from 2 over the track and distance.

(6) Laws of Indices was 4th behind Anamoe at Randwick last start but is better suited over this trip.

(1) I’m Thunderstruck - Each Way

$6/$2.20 (2 Units)

Race 9

(3) Amendable has drawn well in 2 is first up at 2000m but all indications point to the Lohnro/Caribbean Sunset colt wanting it. Damien Oliver is on and he has placed on him twice from 4 attempts so will know what he has to do now. He was unlucky in the Group 1 Australian Guineas last start and despite being 5th, he was only beaten 1.5L.

(5) Japanese Emperor is fitter now and looked the winner in the Guineas with 100m to go. This race looks ideal and he will be flying home.

(2) Bank Maur is very fit now is up 400m to the 2000m also and after he ran on very well in the Guineas it looks as though the distance will suit.

(6) Watadeel was beaten a nose here a month ago and handled the track very well that day.

(3) Amendable - WIN

$3.20 (3 Units)
