If you're looking for a different way to bet this Spring Carnival then we highly recommend you check out the offerings at UPC Showdown.
UPC Showdown is the "Ultimate Punters Challenge" as it pits you against other players from around Australia in a virtual tournament to see who can pick the most winners on the day. You no longer have to try to beat the house, just get ahead of your opponents to win big!
And the prize money is impressive. In it's first six months of operation, UPC Showdown has given away almost $2 million in prize money. Their recent Saturday racing Showdown offered a top prize of $20,000, and we're expecting to see even higher numbers awarded during the Spring.
But UPC Showdown is not just for racing. They offer Showdowns for popular sports as well, with NRL and AFL featuring at the moment.
So how does it work? Let's take a closer look at UPC Showdown so that you can get up to speed to jump in and give it a try!
How Does UPC Showdown work?
Racing
Racing Showdowns are the most popular contests on the UPC Showdown site and offer some incredible prize pools for just a few dollars entry fee.
The racing Showdowns are a "set and forget" format where you pick who you think will win in each of the nominated races at the start the day. Often this will be a few races from each of the main meetings around the country but it can vary. You pick all of your selections prior to the first race.
You'll earn points if your horse finishes in the top 3 placings in a race based on the Tote odds for the race. So if your horse wins, you'll get the Win odds plus the Place odds in the form of points for the Showdown, while 2nd and 3rd in the race will receive the Place odds.
At the end of the day, the points accumulated are added together and whoever earns the most points will receive the top prize, while smaller consolation prizes are paid out for the other top places in the Showdown. UPC Showdown contests are usually quite top-heavy with their payouts, so winning is definitely the goal.
While you don't have to do anything after you've made your initial selections, there is an option to "Rebuy" if you've missed the mark early and want to take another swing at it. You can also enter a Showdown more than once if you want to cover a wider range of horses. Check out the Info tab for more information on the maximum number of entries and rebuy period for each Showdown.
There are also regular freerolls if you want to try your hand at the format to see how it works, with bonus prizes awarded.
Sports
NRL and AFL Showdown contests are available at the moment and they work a bit like a Same Game Multi.
You'll be presented with a number of different options across a number of games to pick your Same Game Multi. This will be markets like who you think will win the match, as well as first goal/try scorer. Make your selections and for every one of them that lands, the odds will be multiplied together to give you your Showdown points total.
Again, whoever earns the most points will take home the top prize in the Showdown! This is a great way to get a huge payout for your same game multi!
Quick Pick
If you're not too sure on who to pick, or you're just in a hurry, you can go with the Quick Pick option. Much like a Quick Pick in Tattslotto works, you'll be given some random selections to fill your lineup. You can enter one or multiple quick picks at once. Not the most strategic option, but sometimes being a little bit contrarian to the field can be a good thing and it's still a fun way to sweat the action!
