Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, April 16th

Wyong Race 1 - (Market)

With the beautiful weather that Sydney and the provincial regions have been having in the lead-up, we can expect Wyong to be racing on a good surface. (1) Significance gets his chance to break through. The son of Frankel has been a little costly for punters at his first three starts, beaten at SP’s of $3.80, $3.80 and $4.60. He gets his best chance to get out of maiden grade here, he has good speed and looks the leader. A little concerning that he goes from having Nash riding to Tom Sherry, but it does come with the good 2kg claim.  He comes to the smaller track at Wyong where it is advantageous to be on the speed, hopefully he gets rolling from the 600m mark and has a handy break into the short straight. His best effort of three runs was on a good track, he clearly didn’t handle the heavy conditions last start.

(1) Significance

$1.70

Wyong Race 2 - (Market)

(3) Kyo is yet to place at two career starts but his combined beaten margin has been 2.28 lengths. Both starts have been just down the F3 at Gosford, a similar track to Wyong. Both have long back straights with good runs to the first and only turn for sprint races, leading into a short straight. Kyo has led at both starts and been run down, he stays at the 1000m and is drawn well and gets the benefit of a claim. The key for me here is that both of those starts have been on rain affected ground (no shock for anyone that knows Gosford that they are usually on soft/heavy tracks), he has tired late at the back-end and this hopefully was due to trying to get through the conditions. Back on top of the ground, skipping away around the bend, he looks very hard to run down.

(3) Kyo

$3.40

Pakenham Race 1 - (Market)

(8) Jokat debuted at Cranbourne two weeks ago, she opened very short in the betting around the even money mark but was a big drifter late, out past $4 at most betting shops. She jumped awkwardly but got into a good position behind the speed, saved ground around the turn and was ok through the line having every chance. She was third but looked to have plenty to learn, very green up the straight behind a smart winner. She goes from 1000m – 1200m which should suit, has a wide draw which also should see her out in the middle of the track in the run home, giving her more room. She is also accepted to go around on Friday night at Cranbourne, so if she is a scratching here, look out for her tomorrow.

(8) Jokat

$2.70

Pakenham Race 5 - (Market)

(10) Pierro Rose went to Canberra resuming for an easy kill, she was still a maiden at the time but was entered in a very suitable BM50 and after being heavily backed deep into the red, led all the way and was never in doubt from about the 600m mark, winning by more than 4 lengths. Her next assignment was tougher in the Kembla Classic at G3 level where she was outclassed, she led and was poor in the run home but that race has proven a great form reference. Shout The Bar was second across the line and has since won at G1 level, what price would it be here! She gets the blinkers off and no doubt a positive ride from Melham, she will be hard to run down and will trade at a short price in the straight I am sure.

(10) Pierro Rose

$4.50
