NBL Round 16 Betting Tips
Cairns Taipans vs Adelaide 36ers
Saturday, 8pm AEDT
The Taipans were unable to win on the road last weekend against the league leading Kings, going down by nine points in Sydney. That loss put an end to a five-game winning streak that they had going, which has seen them jump into third spot on the ladder as we approach the final couple of rounds of the regular season.
The 36ers won their only game in Round 15, defeating rivals Melbourne United by a comfortable 14 points. That was the Sixers second win in a row in a turn of form that has come at the right time. They still have plenty of work to do if they’re to make the playoffs and we’re not sure they have what it takes.
The Taipans are the better team in this matchup, and we expect them to turn home court advantage into a win here. They’ve won nine of their 12 home games this season and the Sixers have won just four of their 11 away games, which makes this play a fairly straightforward one in our opinion.

NZ Breakers vs Melbourne United
Sunday 3pm AEDT
The Breakers had a chance to put real pressure on the teams inside the top four last weekend, but instead they suffered back to back defeats and are now in danger of falling out of playoffs contention. Prior to their two losses last weekend the Breakers had won five on the spin and were looking like a legitimate contender for a top four spot.
Melbourne United have been unable to build any true form this season and are now a big chance to slip outside the top four if they’re unable to get going. Last weekend they were losers in their only game in Round 15, going down to the Sixers very easily on the road. United have now lost three of their last four games and are only .5 games ahead of the Sixers in fifth.
Both of these clubs were losers last weekend and will be desperate to get back onto the winners list, however, we see the Breakers as the more likely to do just that. We’re prepared to excuse their performance last weekend in hope they can produce at the level we were seeing in the weeks prior, which would be enough to get the win here against an out of sorts United outfit.
Sydney Kings vs SE Melbourne Phoenix
The Kings were important winners last weekend against the Taipans, winning at home by nine points in an impressive display. It was their second straight win by a comfortable margin, which has made sure they stay on top of the ladder as we approach the end of the regular season. They’re just about guaranteed a double chance in the playoffs, which will make them very hard to beat.
Phoenix scored an important win of their own last weekend, downing the Hawks on the road by eight points. That win snapped a mini two game losing streak and was just their third win on the road this season. Phoenix are now in seventh spot on the ladder and are two wins outside the top four with eight games to play.
Although Phoenix will be desperate to claim a win here, we just can’t see them matching it with the best in the business, particularly when they’re away from home. The Kings are the far more talented squad and as long they bring something close to their best effort, we have them being far too good at home.
