Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, January 5th
Wyong Race 2 (Market)
(5) Destorner is first-up off an 8-week break, he had one prep prior to this where he won his maiden on debut and then put in a couple of fair efforts. He was sent to the paddock and resumed at Hawkesbury a couple of months ago, she got well back in the run before angling clear and hitting the line well, narrowly missing the placings, beaten under 2 lengths. She has been given a good freshen up, she was ok in a recent trial against the better horses. Drawn well here back in a winnable Class 1, she should settle closer and hit the line well.
Ballina Race 4 (Market)
A fillies and mares set weights maiden over 1310m looks a great race for (13) Selina to break the duck. She has been to the races six times and placed at half of those. She has had three runs this prep, resuming at Ipswich she had every chance when second after a great ride. She was then poor second-up at Doomben in a harder race than this, the vet found nothing to be out of the ordinary but she certainly was poor. She then was given a 5-week freshen-up, was heavily backed at Lismore, deep into red figures. She didn’t get a lot of room to run on late but feel she was entitled to get a little closer, there has already been a winner come through that race also. Any black figures about her here taking on the older horses from the good draw looks a gift.
Mornington Race 2 (Market)
(8) Three Legs In is a still a maiden after 7 starts, and to be fair, has not really shown much at his first two preps. He had only placed at one of the first six prior to resuming, that was second--up last campaign as he is today. That first-up run was at Flemington up the straight in a much harder race than this, he settled mid-field and although he didn’t really attack the line, he beat a few home holding his spot. He stays at the 6 furlongs today but from the good gate I can see him settling a lot closer. John Allen is replaced by Patrick Moloney, the former can be known to be a little negative early, hopefully with the change of hoops he is right up on the speed. This is a stack easier than last start and it looks his race. The second favourite will be (9) Timber Top, he has been fair in his two starts to date but really was entitled to get a lot closer than what he did last start after a perfect ride in a race no harder than this. He gets the winkers for the first time, hard to see him starting under $5.
