Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, September 22nd
Ballarat Race 3 (Market)
(3) Crowned Lizzie has to take the step out of maiden grade to 64, but the way he won his maiden last start was impressive enough to suggest that he can take that step. He was well backed late, sat just off the speed before swinging ide and running on smartly for an impressive debut win. There has been another horse already win out of that race so the form line has held up well. The track was heavy that day so he should have no issue with the wet track here. His main danger looks to be the topweight (1) Rutherford. He is also a last start maiden winner after running on strongly. Happy to take him on though, he was big odds that day and will be giving them a start. I expect him to be a big drifter in the betting.
Ballarat Race 6 (Market)
The feature of the day at Ballarat is the $50k Gold Nugget. (1) A Shin Rook was resuming in a much harder race in town last start, he was well back in the run and although he didn’t show a lot of brilliance, he kept grinding home nicely and ran through the line well. Stepping up to the 1600m looks ideal, dropping back in class and second-up also suits, two of his four wins have come following his fresh run. (2) Kilimanjaro and (3) Barry The Baptist and (6) Navaisha are all first up at the mile, (4) Curragh looks the obvious danger but he was poor at his first Melbourne run and happy to take him on.
Moree Race 4 (Market)
(1) Magic Town is taken on spec here, he has only been fair the last few runs before hitting the line well at Bathurst last time to place. He is coming right back in trip but has been given a freshen up of three weeks, comes to a new trainer and gets the in-form Aaron Bullock to go on. This is easier than what he has been racing and will get an economical trip from the draw, look for him late at double figure odds.
Moree Race 7 (Market)
Again, we are with Aaron Bullock on a horse that has come to a new trainer. (4) Reward For Silence is a new addition to Tamworth trainer Cody Morgan, the former Mick Kent runner had struggled in his last couple in Victoria on the heavy tracks. He is drawn in and although he will get back, he should be hitting the line hard. He is currently at a good each-way quote but would love to see some support for him before the min bet laws kick in. The big field should ensure a genuine tempo, look for him late.
