2019 Men's Wimbledon Semi-Finals Betting Tips

July 12th 2019, 4:08pm, By: Jake Smit

The same three men can’t keep winning all the Grand Slam’s, can they?

It seems one of the big three will once again hold the Wimbledon trophy on Sunday night. All of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have made it to the final four, joined by Spaniard journeyman Roberto Bautista Agut.

Here, we preview and provide betting tips for both men’s semi-finals, which will be played on Friday night. Good luck to everyone following!

Men’s Wimbledon Semi-Finals Betting Tips

Novak Djokovic vs Roberto Bautista Agut (Friday 10pm AEST)

Can we just get this match over and done with? But seriously, Djokovic is the far better player of the two and anything other than a comfortable win would be a shock here.

Djokovic has cruised through to the semi-finals at Wimbledon for the ninth time. He’s a four-time winner at Wimbledon and is the reigning champion. On the other hand, Bautista Agut will be playing in his first career Grand Slam semi-final. His best result at Wimbledon prior to this week was a fourth-round appearance in 2017. He was unable to compete here last year due to injury.

The head-to-head results between these two is actually a little bit interesting. Djokovic won the first five times they played, but Bautista Agut has won three of their last five meetings, including both matches in 2019. However, the two have never played each other on grass.

Despite Bautista Agut’s recent success against Djokovic, he will come in as the huge underdog. Expect the Serb to flex his muscles and try and get off the court in as quick a time as he can. Predicting he finishes this one in three comfortable sets.

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal (Saturday 12am AEST)

Now for one of the most highly anticipated matches in recent memory. It’s Rafa vs Federer in the Wimbledon semi-finals – stakes could hardly be any greater.

Federer, an eight-time champion at Wimbledon, has been in fine form on the grass for a couple of weeks now… well a couple of decades if you want to get technical. The Fed-Express has dismissed five opponents while dropping just two sets combined this week and has won 10 straight matches on grass this year.

Nadal, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has also been in ripping touch at Wimbledon this year. The King of Clay put an end to a seven year second-week drought at Wimbledon last year when he made the semi-finals and has backed up his efforts with another semi-final this campaign, his seventh in total at Wimbledon. Other than a tight four-setter with Nick Kyrgios, it’s been smooth sailing for Rafa thus far.

As you would imagine, these two warriors have faced each other plenty of times – 39 in fact. Rafa leads the count 24-15, although Federer has won five of their last six meetings. Amazingly, this will be just their fourth ever meeting on grass.

Last time these two met on grass was in the Wimbledon Final in 2008, which is a match that many regard as the greatest match of all time. Rafa won in five sets on that occasion, which was sweet revenge for consecutive Wimbledon Final defeats to Federer in the two years prior.

These men played each other on the clay at Roland-Garros a little over a month ago and it was Nadal that won comfortably. This time however, Federer gets his turn to play on his preferred surface. As a result, we expect him to get his revenge over the Spaniard and continue his recent head-to-head dominance.
