Super Rugby Round 2 Betting Tips
Highlanders vs Reds (Friday, Feb 22 5:35pm AEDT)
First up in Round 2 will be the Highlanders hosting the QLD Reds. For the home side, it was a great start to the season as they pretty much stole victory from the Chiefs on the road. Despite a red card in the second half, the Dunedin side stormed over the Chiefs to win 30-27. Now, they head into this clash as overwhelming favourites at around $1.08. QLD is opening their 2019 campaign with a tough road-trip after a Round 1 bye. They haven't won in NZ for around 6 years and lost 40-17 in their last game at this venue. Interestingly, they did manage to get within 3 points of the Highlanders last year in Brisbane. However, the Highlanders are another beast at home with their 13-3 record since 2017 and they're coming off a huge win over the Chiefs. So in the end, the Highlanders should record a comfortable victory and the only value is with the line at this stage. The line of 20.5 points is a tough bet to recommend in this case and this makes Friday a safe no bet.

Sunwolves vs Waratahs (Saturday, Feb 23 3:15pm AEDT)
Saturday's Rugby action begins in Japan as the Waratahs travel for the first time in 2019. They were a Bernard Foley penalty kick away (missed wide left) from a 1-0 start so they'll be eager to take apart the Sunwolves defence, which again looks average. The Sharks ran in 45 points in Round 1 against them and looking at the Waratahs record against the Sunwolves, this could get ugly. Last season, NSW piled on 77 points in a 77-25 crushing win in Sydney. The two previous encounters have been played overseas and NSW have outscored their opponents 107-41. So I'm comfortable taking on the Waratahs at the line of 20.5 points. They've covered the line in 5 straight games after a loss and it's 6-2 when they're away favourites.
Crusaders vs Hurricanes (Saturday, Feb 23 5:35pm AEDT)
One of the games of the round will see the Crusaders and Hurricanes Semi-Final rematch from last year. The Crusaders comfortably put them away 30-12 on the way to the Grand Final in 2018. They opened their title defence with a fairly inconsistent 24-22 win over the Blues. But they'll take the win on the road and they should be up and about for their first home game of the season. On the other hand, the Hurricanes returned from Australia with a fairly lucky 20-19 win over the Waratahs. But again, a win is a win especially away from home. The odds have the Crusaders as favourites and it's hard to back against a 20-0 record at home since the start of the 2017 season. But the trend in this matchup between these sides at this venue is the Under. It's 6-1 since 2012 and I think this will be another low scoring affair. Both sides weren't at their best in attack in Round 1 and that should see this go Unders.

Brumbies vs Chiefs (Saturday, Feb 23 7:45pm AEDT)
The Brumbies host the Chiefs in Canberra on Saturday night and both sides will be desperate for a win after close losses in Round 1. ACT couldn't stop the Rebels in a 34-27 defeat last week. Meanwhile, the Chiefs also lost at home in Round 1, going down to the Highlanders by 3 points. The trouble here for the Brumbies will be how they cover the loss of David Pocock after another concussion. So I think that's concerning when they have to face the Chiefs backline, which can pile on the points. They won 48-23 at this venue in 2016 and they have a good line record after a loss (13-6) since 2014. So the Chiefs to beat the line looks the best bet here.
Sharks vs Blues (Sunday, Feb 24 12:05am AEDT)
In this matchup, the Sharks and Blues will go to battle in Durban. The home side opened the season with an easy win over the Sunwolves 45-10 and they return home looking for a 2-0 start. Interestingly, they haven't hosted the Blues in SA since 2013 and despite that fact, they have a 6-1 record against the Blues. Which includes a 63-40 win last season in NZ. The Blues showed good signs in Round 1 as they held with the Crusaders in a 24-22 loss. After a poor 2018, that performance may spark a better showing in 2019. However, a trip to South Africa is never easy and I think the Sharks as underdogs at home is interesting. They have won 3 straight against the Blues at this venue since 2010 and they also won 6 of their 8 home games in 2018. The Blues away record isn't overly great with just 6 wins from their last 16 games.
Stormers vs Lions (Sunday, Feb 24 2:15am AEDT)
Round 2 action continues as the Stormers and Lions clash in Cape Town. The home side will be looking to forget a dismal Round 1 performance after losing 40-3 against the Bulls. Their poor away record from last season continued. But they'll hope for better fortunes on their home turf this week. The Lions are back from Argentina and a well fought win over the Jaguares. They seem to have the wood over the Stormers with 4 straight victories at any venue and a 2-0 record here since 2017. If the Stormers Round 1 defence shows up again, this could be another belting against the strong Lions. They have a 5-0-1 line record when playing the Stormers since 2015 and I think they'll cover again this weekend.
Jaguares vs Bulls (Sunday, Feb 24 8:40am AEDT)
In the last game of the round, it's looking like a close affair between the Jaguares and Bulls in Argentina. Most bookies can't split the two sides at the moment and that could open up an opportunity for the either team bet. In Round 1, the Jaguares fought hard against the Lions but ultimately went down 25-16. The Bulls were arguably the most impressive side in Round 1 as they smashed the Stormers 40-3 at home. The two sides met last season and the home side won on both occasions. At this venue, the Jaguares ran riot in a 54-24 win. However, if the Bulls defence from last week shows up, they won't be producing 50+ points. Look for a close game here.
