2014 PGA Championship
Where: Louisville, Kentucky, United States, Valhalla Golf Club
When: Thursday 7th August (first tee off at 9:30pm AEST)
Rory Mcilroy’s victory in the WGC Bridgestone invitational has catapulted the northern Irishman to world number one. For those of you who followed our Sergio Garcia tip you’ll feel slightly ripped off. Our hats off to Rory who caught fire early and never looked back.
This week the 96th PGA championship will take place at Valhalla golf club. Valhalla was the scene of the 2008 Ryder cup. It is a Jack Nicklaus designed par 71 course that measures in at 7458 yards. The course has some difficult par 4s and closes with a gettable par 5 which sets up for an exciting finish. The fairways are quite generous but the real key to the course is being able to hit the ball high coming into the greens.
13 of the last 15 winners of the PGA championship have posted a win earlier that season.
The weather should be perfect for golf as Kentucky is always hot and humid and there is only a 30% chance of storm on the first 3 days.
2014 PGA Championship Betting Tips
Justin Rose:
Rose was Europe’s 2nd highest point scorer in the 2008 Ryder cup at Valhalla so he will be familiar with the course. The Pom has 2 recent victories on both the PGA and European tour not to mention a major in the back pocket. He tied for 4th last week at Firestone and looks poised for a big weekend.
Odds: $19.50 at Betfair
Hideki Matsuyama:
Matsuyama had his first PGA tour victory at Memorial this year. Similarly it was a Jack Nicklaus designed course with the same attributes that Valhalla presents. The Japanese superstar shot final rounds of 65 and 68 to finish 12th at Firestone. He hits the ball very high which will play into his hands this weekend.
Odds: $55-1 at Betfair
