Randwick Racing Tips
Race 1
MONTAUK is the clear standout here for me. Won comprehensively over track and distance two starts ago and went very close again last start. Down 4kg from that run and although there are a few runners that get a weight swing on him I don't think it's enough to turn the tables. He is going well and really think he should be winning this. Happy to take the $3 on offer.
Tip: Montauk
Race 2
Very surprised to see ACE HIGH is the outsider of the field here at 20/1 given he ran 2nd on debut to Champagne Cuddles who I think is pretty smart. On that occasion he ran home well from the back of the field and actually shifted out badly at the 500m so probably should have finished closer. The trial was slightly underwhelming leaning into this but I think he's way over the odds. LIGHTZ is also over the odds at 15/1. He finished behind a couple of smart ones on debut in Luiza and Showtime before pulling up with poor post-race recovery when favourite at his next start. He's won a trial leading into this and could be some value. VERANILLO looks the one to beat though, after a solid debut win in November. He's also trialled well leading into this and draws to get a great run from barrier 4. At the prices I'll be backing Veranillo and having an each way penny on both Ace High and Lightz.
Tip: Veranillo / Ace High EW / Lightz EW
Race 3
Tough race with nothing really standing out here. Prepared to side with GOLD SYMPHONY here who comes through a strong race last start behind Ecuador. Step up to 1600m looks ok and with 53.5kg on his back he gets a significant advantage over those at the top of the weights. STRAWBERRY BOY could be hardest to beat here after two runs without much luck. Hugh Bowman jumps back on today and he should be ready to peak at his third run back over the mile, but he does have the 61.5kg to contend with.
Tip: Gold Symphony
Race 4
DAL CIELO looks awfully hard to beat here after his win in the Summer Sprint last start which backed up his sizzling first up effort. He is flying this prep over the shorter distances and I really think he stands out here so happy to back him at the $3.10 available. AGEAN SEA could be hardest to beat first up from a spell with two trials under the belt. Won first up last campaign and has had two trials leading into this.
Tip: Dal Cielo
Race 5
SUPER STAR BOB won this race impressively last time out beating both Nic's Vendetta and Clipper. He goes up 2kg in weight here so gives them a 3.5kg and 2kg swing respectively but from the good draw I don't think that's enough to stop him winning this again. Not sure Clipper runs a strong 1200m out so Nic's Vendetta could be the biggest danger.
Tip: Super Star Bob
Race 6
I think Godolphin hold the aces here and happy to back both runners. BEZEL went through the grades last start, winning three on the trot before finishing 3rd in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes behind Comin' Through. I do think he has the ability to win over 1200m fresh. BYRNEICH resumed from a spell with a dominant performance over 1250m at Canterbury where he won by 4.5L in BM70 grade and although this is a big step up I think he's capable of winning this at $7. I actually think COMIN' THROUGH is the best horse in the race and my early tip for one of the Guineas' races but he probably won't be sharp enough over 1200m first up. SPENDING TO WIN a definite winning chance.
Tip: Bryneich
Race 7
Group 2 for the mares here and a good field has assembled for this. Pretty keen on two runners here. DANISH TWIST ($4.20) comes into this first up from a spell with two trials under the belt. First up last prep she ran 3rd in Group 2 company over this distance against the boys, beaten 0.2L behind Takedown and Our Boy Malachi. That form line reads tremendously strong for a race like this against her own sex and if she is ready to go fresh she should go very close here. I AM ZELADY is the other one who interests me third up from a spell. She ran 2nd last start at the Gold Coast behind Private Secretary and has since trialled super leading into this. Drops down to 54kg here and back in trip to the 1200m should see her competitive at $6. Backing both.
Tip: Danish Twist / I Am Zelady
Race 8
Backing LIAPARI here who was an absolute murder job last start and should have won. Two starts back ran a lose up 2nd to Classic Uniform but gets a 1kg swing in the weights here and I think that and the barrier draws are enough to turn the tables. Biggest danger could be IMANUI who is undefeated third up from a spell and undefeated over the distance. INVINCIBLE KNIGHT looks a value hope after winning first up but pulling up with a problem last start. His record at the distance and his record third up from a spell are both very good.
Tip: Liapari / Invincible Knight EW
Race 9
Today might be the day that NIKITAS wins a race for Chris Waller, heavily down in grade on anything he contested last prep. This time last prep he was running in Group 2 company behind the likes of Star Turn and Astern so back to BM84 grade with 55kg and a good draw should see him pretty competitive at decent odds. DEPLOY at the top of the weights has won three on the trot and despite rising to 59kg he can win again.
Tip: Nikitas EW
