It once seemed that big Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) prize pools in Australia were limited to AFL and NRL. However, a few weeks into the 2016-17 NBA season and DFS in Australia is really starting to heat up with the two biggest DFS sites hosting $30,000 GTD prize pool DFS tournaments this Thursday, December 1st.
There is no doubt Draftstars and MoneyBall are currently in blistering competition to become the biggest daily fantasy site in the country. Since the start of the NBA season they have been trying to one-up each other's guaranteed prize pools - which just means bigger and better tournaments for us Aussie DFS fans.
Just a few weeks ago the largest NBA daily fantasy contest available featured a $10,000 prize pool, since then MoneyBall upped the ante to $15,000, $20,000 and $25,000. Draftstars were struggling to keep up, but then threw down the gauntlet by announcing a $30,000 Thursday NBA tournament which MoneyBall quickly matched.
So with that, there are two different sites where you can turn your $15 investment into thousands this Thursday as NBA daily fantasy in Australia has grown to new heights.
Draftstars - NBA Fever $30K Thursday
The $30K guaranteed prize pool on Draftstars is called the 'NBA Fever' and costs $15 to enter. If the guaranteed prize pool is met, there will be at least 2,320 players in the contest, but there is a chance there will be a juicy overlay.
As is always the case with NBA daily fantasy on Draftstars, each entrant will start with a $100,000 virtual salary which they will use to pick their best nine-player NBA team with games from this Thursday's slate.
There are 10 games to choose from, so picking the best possible NBA fantasy team will not be easy and will require a little bit of research - especially with the various salaries that players cost.
Want Russell Westbrook or DeMarcus Cousins in your team? They are going to cost almost $5,000 more than any other available player. They way they put up fantasy points, however, means you might not be able to do without them.
Each of your players score fantasy points based on stats such as field goals, steals and rebounds, while they lose points for turnovers and for missing shots. If your team of nine players scores more than any other entrant's team in the tournament, you will win a huge $6,000, while the top 350 players will turn their $15 entry into at least $24.
MoneyBall - NBA Thursday $30K Monster
Much like the Draftstars NBA daily fantasy contest, MoneyBall's Thursday event costs $15 to enter and will feature a $30,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Each participant in the MoneyBall tournament will start with a $60,000 virtual salary with players priced slightly different than on Draftstars - although the basic premise is still the same with stat-fiends like Westbrook and Cousins costing proportionately more than other players.
The winner's prize on MoneyBall at $4,500 is slightly smaller than Draftstars, but the top 531 players will at least double their buy-in, so it is perhaps more beginner friendly.
Good luck if you decide to enter these massive NBA DFS contests!
