We are only three rounds into the NRL competition but we already have a surprise front-runner to win the Dally M medal at the end of the season.
Canberra Raiders hooker Josh Hodgson has helped his side to two wins and a draw and is currently sitting on top of the Dally M leader board earning 8-points out of a possible 9.
In the opening two games, Hodgson was forced to play in multiple positions as his side suffered serious injuries to key players.
He stepped up in their absence and has been influential in his side’s early success.
Hodgson’s performances have been noticed by the bookmakers as Sportsbet has moved his odds in from $101 to $21.
Sportsbet has stated that there will be one big Hodgson fan sweating out his remaining matches as they put $200 on him at the odds of $101 for a potential win of $20,000!
Sportsbet’s Christian Jantzen explained Hodgson’s move in the market.
“Josh Hodgson has been on fire in the opening rounds and we were probably crazy to offer odds of $101 on him in the first place given his ability and importance to the Raiders side,” Jantzen said.
Hodgson hasn’t been the only big move in the Dally M market as young guns James Tedesco and Anthony Milford have shortened into $9 from $34 and $21 respectively.
Despite currently being outside the top 10 in Dally M points, Johnathan Thurston remains the favourite to win his third straight Dally M medal and is currently at the odds of $5.
It will be interesting to see if Hodgson can continue to play at a high level and be the first Canberra Raider to win the Dally M medal in 21 years.
