Australian Open Fourth Round Betting Tips
A Zverev vs U Humbert
We are heading towards the business end of the Australian Open, and one of the more intriguing match-ups of the day sees Alexander Zverev and Ugo Humbert doing battle for a spot in the final 8.
Both players have been solid in their matches in Melbourne to date, though my slight preference lies with the general form of Alexander Zverev. There were some question marks regarding his fitness coming into the tournament, thanks largely to his withdrawal midway through the United Cup. Nevertheless, he has made his way through to the fourth round relatively comfortably. Humbert has dropped just the one set on his way, losing the opener to Arthur Fils last round.
These two met in the final of the ATP Paris Masters 1000 late last year. Humbert was a surprise finalist, and didn’t bring his best on the day, losing 2-6 2-6. I don’t feel this match-up is the best for the left handed Humbert, with Zverev rock solid on his backhand wing and able to manage playing left handers better than most on tour. In fact, Zverev has won his last 27 matches against left handed players. Not a bad stat at all!
I was a little disappointed with the level that Humbert produced against Fils, and I feel he was a little bit lucky to have made his way through that match courtesy of a Fils injury and subsequent retirement. I don’t find myself heading into large minus games handicaps for Zverev all too often, however I am happy to step into the -5.5 games for a 1.5 unit selection in this one.
