Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday October 19th 2024

October 18th 2024, 3:00pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Caulfield Racing Tips

A great day of racing greets punters in Victoria and New South Wales on Saturday with the running’s of the Caulfield Cup and The Everest. Here though, we’ll concentrate on Caulfield which sees the Chris Waller trained $4.20 favourite Buckeroo lead the way in the big race. The track is currently rated a Good 4 but with rain about and a predicted 10ml of rain to call on the track on Friday, a Soft track isn't out of the equation.

Check out our best bets for Caulfield below and be sure to head over to our Racing Tips page for more free tips this Saturday!

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, October 19th 2024

Race 1: Lamaro’s Hotel Plate - 12:15pm (AEDT)

(11) Taken has run two placings from two starts so far and has drawn well in barrier 6. He ran on well for 2nd at The Valley last start and will appreciate a slightly longer straight here. Up to the 1400m now and this might be his Grand Final in his first prep.

(1) Sugar Coat has drawn wide in 11 but has already placed over the 1400m previously. Settles on speed which could be the place to be early on.

(4) Catoggio hasn't been placed on Dry ground which is a concern but is a betting proposition if it rains. Last start Geelong winner after leading all of the way.

TIP: No Bet

Race 2: Stow Storage Gothic Stakes - 12:50pm (AEDT)

(6) Reserve Bank was beaten a nose last start and can bounce back with a gear change (concussion plates off). He suffered a bruise last start but is ready to fire from all reports and a Soft track might be the go for this boy. Should settle around 4th on the outside and be strong to the line.

(5) Stolli Bolli was scratched last time due to a wide barrier but scored well in race one of the night at The Valley before that. The Hayes team are being patient and he has won twice on the Dry.

(7) Gallant Son should sit 3rd behind the leader in the run so will look the winner at some stage. Gets Zac Purton for the first time which is a key engagement.

(6) Reserve Bank

$3.60 (2 Units)

Race 3: Sportsbet Classic Group 3 - 1:25pm (AEDT)

(1) Keeneland settles up there and from barrier 2 will do so again over 2000m which he sees for the first time. He is very good on Dry tracks but has never raced on a rain-affected track previously. Smashed them at Benalla two starts back and then won the Super Impose at Flemington. The one to beat.

(2) Red Aces was slowly catching Keeneland last start when backed into 10-1 and will have to do so again because he will settle midfield. Jamie Mott rides and already knows him well.

(3) Politely Dun has drawn a little wide in 7 compared to his main rivals but he is likely to go back anyway. If the pace is on, he just about wins this but if it's not, I'm not sure he can catch Keeneland. Has already won over 2000 and is a key danger.

(1) Keeneland

$2.70 (2 Units)

Race 4: Schweppes Ethereal Stakes Group 3 - 2pm (AEDT)

(1) Too Darn Discreet for the O’Sullivan Team gets the nod here on the back of her come from behind Group 2 win at Flemington. In the Edward Manifold she was 8th on the bend and her closing sectionals were very good. That win was on a Soft6 though so the stable will want the rain on Friday night and race morning. It really looks as though she is ready for the 2000m now and the filly can win again to make it three on the bounce.

(3) Femminile has won one race and that was on the Heavy. She was making up late ground in the Super Impose (6th) after being slow out and she can win if the pace is fast early. Good odds.

(4) Hurry Curry raises his distance by 200m again here after winning two in a row. She has barrier 8 here and she had that barrier when winning last start.

(1) Too Darn Discreet

$3.40 (2 Units)

Race 5: Carlton Draught Alinghi Stakes - 2:35pm (AEDT)

(8) Isthmus gets the rails draw here and the mare should be able to push up to behind the leader in this one. Won in quick time at Hillside when first up and then did it again at Flemington on September 22 after settling in a similar position to what I think she will in this race. McNeil is 1 from 1 on top and I can't fault her.

(10) Niance has won 50 percent of her career starts and has drawn well in 3. Is first up here and has won twice when first up before.

(1) Chiny Boom goes well fresh and this race is easier than last time. Jimmysstar broke her heart that day and then Jimmy won again here last week.

(8) Isthmus

$4.00 (2 Units)

Race 6: Manhari Thousand Guineas Prelude - 3:10pm (AEDT)

(3) Geegees Mistruth has drawn poor in 12 but I can’t fault her form after she ran a gallant 2nd behind Bellatrix Star at The Valley last start in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes. Bellatrix Star has since won again and this filly is ready to fire over 1400m. Ben Melham has had two rides on her for two seconds and she has run home well over 1100m and 1200m the last two starts. Will likely settle midfield but there is a risk she will get caught. We need a Melham Special.

(1) Ameena has also drawn poor in 11 and will need a peach of a ride from McNeil. Her two starts at Randwick were very good and she is ready for this. Similar to her main rival, she will be hooking wide and running on over the final 400m.

(6) Zeitung will also get back and will need the pace on. Will want the rain to come.

(3) Geegees Mistruth

$4.40 (2 Units)

Race 7: Millennium Sprint Group 2 - 3:45pm (AEDT)

(1) Estriella gets a better draw here (1) and she won’t have to worry about getting caught wide. She is 1 from 1 at Caulfield and has won 4 from 8 races on Dry tracks which she would like here. She has trialed up nicely on Soft ground before so that might be okay too. Third up now and she has a first and a second to her name when third up. Melham takes the ride for the first time.

(8) Ray Magnerio ticks a lot of boxes if the track stays Dry. He also has a good second up record and with 4 win for McNeil already, the jockey and horse get along well.

(9) Midtown Boss has run two seconds at Caulfield and he has a good first up record.

(1) Estrella

$3.60 (2 Units)

Race 8: Sharp EIT Solutions Tristarc Stakes - 4:30pm (AEDT)

(2) Revolutionary Miss loves the 1400m having won four times before. In a hard race each-way may be the way. She has won 5 from 12 over the last 12 months and she has won 3 times at Caulfield.

(1) Quintessa won the Group 3 Cockram and then failed in the Let’s Elope. Top weight but can carry it.

(4) Skybird is probably the most talented horse in the race but does get a long way back. One start for one 3rd here.

TIP: No Bet

Race 10: Sportsbet Moonga Stakes - 5:50pm (AEDT)

(17) Globe should get a gig here and can win on resumption from a spell. A Soft track would be ideal and the lightly raced gelding should get a comfortable run from barrier 7. He has already won over 1400m and he trialed up well last week in readiness for this.

(13) Aegon likes this distance and has won 3 from 7 on Soft tracks. He has raced in harder races than this many times and is over the odds.

(1)  Pinstriped laid in last start on a Heavy track when 7th. Group 1 Memsie winner prior to that. Is the fav but would be wanting more than the $3.10 that is currently on offer.

(17) Globe Each-Way

$15.00/$3.70 (0.5 Units)
