Randwick hosts the opening Group 1 of the season this weekend in the shape of the Winx Stakes. The field is stacked full of returning talent and the meeting should be a belter from start to finish. Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, August 19th 2023
Race 1: Midway Bm72 – 1200m (11:35 AEST)
(15) Unwritten launched home last time in this grade and can do something similar here from a wide draw. It’s an open race, as are most of the races on the card so I’m looking for horses at value.
(16) Super Bright is the consistent runner of the field and likely benchmark however she regularly misses the kick and puts herself in tricky positions to win from. Expect her to be thereabouts but a risk at a short price.
(11) Field Wiri gives the impression she’s better than a Midway bm72 but that is yet to be seen. She’s drawn neutrally here and should get her chance. Interested to see how she performs.
(15) Unwritten – E/W
$10/$3.3 (1 Unit)
Race 4: Bm78 Hcp – 1600m (13:20 AEST)
(15) For Victory is right in the top few considerations in this race and is a great price early doors. He’s an import now having his 3rd run in the country after flashing home at Rosehill last start. 1600m will suit and he’s in astute hands.
(12) Hollywood Hero doesn’t look like he knows much about running a bad race. Can improve on his 2nd to Ivan’s Hero given a nice weight swing and a good barrier on the weekend.
(13) Ivan’s Hero is the benchmark from last start here and is favourite as a result. Don’t trust him that short but respect he’s a solid chance.
(15) For Victory – E/W

Race 8: Winx Stakes – 1400m (15:45 AEST)
(7) Golden Mile. It’s often the case that the horses with a run under their belt are fitter and golden mile was completely screwed in his last run with big parade going amiss ahead of him. The horse is drawn well again and with more luck should be right in the thick of things.
(13) Fangirl ran well in this race last year and should be able to achieve a similar result here. She’s drawn wide but has James McDonald aboard who should keep her out of trouble and give her a clear crack in the home straight.
(3) Mo’unga typically runs well fresh and is a horse who can never be left out of 1400m G1 races such as this. Expect him to perform well if he can overcome a wide draw and find a solid position near the lead early.
(7) Golden Mile – E/W
