PGA Tour: Charles Schwab Challenge Betting Tips
Colonial Country Club, Thursday 25th - Sunday 28th May
It was a solid week at the PGA Championship last week as we hit on two of the three place bets in Adam Scott and Xander Schauffele. We’ll be looking to continue that momentum as we preview the Charles Schwab Challenge from Texas.
The Field
Predictably, the field for the Charles Schwab this week has far less star power than the major last week, but still boasts some top level names in the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Sungjae Im and Max Homa.
Past winners of the Charles Schwab Challenge who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Zach Johnson, Chris Kirk, Spieth, Kevin Kisner, Justin Rose and the defending champion from 2022, Sam Burns.
The Course
The Charles Schwab Challenge was first played 77 years ago in 1946, making it one of the oldest running PGA Tour events on the calendar, and throughout it’s existence, it has been played at only one course, the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
The course plays as a Par 70 at just over 7,200 yards and while the greens aren’t exactly a massive challenge, finding them can be at times. The fairways are tight and lined with trees while the green complexes are small which makes play from tee to green difficult. There is also water in play on six holes. Our key focus will be on strong tee to green players this week.
Betting Tips
Jordan Spieth ($13/Top 10 $2.50)
Hard to look past the Texan native this week in one of his favourite tournaments. The Charles Schwab Challenge is a regular stop on the circuit for Spieth, having played the event 10 times for one win and an impressive eight top 10 finishes. Coming off a solid T29 at the PGA Championship last week, should feel much more at home at CCC.
Chris Kirk ($36/Top 20 $2.50)
Kirk is another former winner of the event who regular makes the trip to Texas. He has competed in the tournament 12 times for 12 made cuts and seven top 25 finishes. Was solid at the PGA Championship last week with a T29 as well.
Ryan Palmer ($101/Top 40 $2.05)
Palmer missed out on playing the PGA Championship last week, which could work in his favour given the extra rest and the opportunity to get down to Texas a little earlier to prepare for the event. He finished T8 at the AT&T Byron Nelson the previous week and has a solid record at the Charles Schwab, racking up a whopping 19 trips to Colonial for 14 cuts made and six top 25 finishes.
