With two massive victories over the last fortnight, Brisbane are officially up and running in 2023. This week they will take on the Giants, who have competed well if only to manage two wins to this point of the campaign.
As such, the fans at Manuka Oval may well be in for a treat in this Saturday twilight clash!

AFL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
GWS vs Brisbane
Saturday 4:35pm AEST, April 22nd, Manuka Oval
These two teams are very similarly placed at this point of the season, but it’s easy to see that only one of them is a contender in 2023.
Brisbane have been up and down on their way to a 3-2 win/loss record, showing glimpses of their supreme talent while also turning out some disappointing performances. Last week’s effort was an example of this – the Lions could not shake the Kangaroos in a high scoring first half, but they broke the shackles in the second half to run out the game as 75-point victors. A return to form for Lachie Neale was one of the driving forces behind the win – the Brownlow medallist racked up 37 touches with support from fellow onballers Josh Dunkley and Will Ashcroft. Crucially for the Lions, their often-maligned tall forwards were in full flight – Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood kicked five and four goals, respectively, while Charlie Cameron and Cam Rayner also hit the scoreboard. This group will have to be at their best again on Saturday, as Brisbane look to go 4-2 against a plucky GWS side.
Many ranked the Giants as a bottom four team in the lead up to this season, and I was just about in agreeance, but they have showed some positive signs in the opening weeks. Wins against the Hawks and Crows suggest that GWS may end up closer to the middle of the table, although a couple of injuries could quickly see that proven false. The ingredients are there for the Giants to remain competitive – Tom Green, Josh Kelly and Stephen Coniglio form an excellent core in the middle, while Jesse Hogan and Toby Greene are proven forward targets. Down back, Sam Taylor has been in excellent form, while Lachie Whitfield, Lachie Ash and Isaac Cumming provide strong rebounding qualities. Unfortunately, Green will be missing this week due to suspension, so the Giants will be praying that Harry Perryman returns to fill the midfield void.
Brisbane have had the wood over GWS in recent years, winning the last four matches between the teams. Two of those triumphs have come by 40+ points, which is easy to understand considering the firepower that the Lions possess. The Giants have not lost by more than 19 points so far this season, so it’s hard to predict a blowout, but Brisbane are good enough to cover the line away from home.

Toby Greene 2+ Goals – Greene has been fantastic so far this year, slotting 14 goals in five games. The GWS skipper has kicked eight majors in his last two clashes with the Lions, so it’s safe to assume he can slot two on Saturday.
Lachie Neale 25+ Disposals – Neale was back to his best against North Melbourne and he is well positioned to star again on Saturday, given the weakened midfield of GWS. In his last two games against the Giants, Neale has totalled 65 disposals at an average of over 32 per game.
Cameron Rayner 2+ Goals – Rayner has found his place as a forward in 2023, kicking seven goals in his last three matches. Furthermore, he has snagged four goals in his last two meetings with the Giants.
