Counter strike and League of Legends fans have now received another reason to follow the online games as the gaming and entertainment firm Unikrn has now allowed its members to bet on eSports.
The Australian betting operator Tabcorp, best known for running the TAB, has partnered with Unikrn and there is now an exclusive online betting platform on Luxbet.
Customers can use the new platform to access live viewing, live discussions and competitive odds.
Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood has explained the intentions of the partnership were to create “a secure, legal and fun arena for adults to gather, game and bet on eSports.”
To ensure there is no illegal behaviour-taking place, Tabcorp will be overseeing the bets that are being placed and will ensure there are no people betting from disallowed jurisdictions and by underage gamers.
Tabcorp CEO David Attenborough said they are excited to be teaming with “a global community platform that reaches millions of gamers around the world, with a proven record of innovation and success.”
“As an investor in Unikrn, Tabcorp is connecting its Luxbet platform to Unikrn’s gaming and eSports communities,” said Attenborough.
There is currently over 500,000 Australians who use eSports and Attenborough has suggested that if there is success in Australia they are likely to expand into the European betting markets.
Unikrn is a US based platform that has over 9 million people involved in the gaming community that tune into the live multiplayer gaming tournaments which includes League of Legends, Counter strike, Call of Duty, Dota2 and much more.
Tabcorp will be controlling the online betting functionality and all of the account identification processes. They have already stated they will be expanding the range of betting options for eSports in the near future.
The market has already been projected to grow by 10 million players over 100 countries this year.
