Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, March 28th
Donald (Ararat) Race 2
Sold Tha Car is a first-starter for the Paul Preusker stable at Horsham. He hasn’t been seen at the official trials but impressed at a jump-out at his home track 3 weeks ago. He jumped well and led, didn’t do too much in the run and was cuddled to the line to finish second with plenty up his sleeve. He has the good draw and if he can jump and take up a position as he did their, he looks ready to go. There doesn’t appear to be much opposition from the raced brigade, the Maher/Eustace debutant Regal Bellarina will she was very quiet in a jump-out at Ballarat and must be respected as well as the other debutant Nearest The Pins, he has trialed well enough behind some smart types.
Donald (Ararat) Race 3
Fort Knox has been to the races five times, placing twice. He resumed at Echuca a fortnight ago over 1000m, jumped well but was eased early and got well back. The jock was stoking him up approaching the turn and he was widest coming into the straight, once he balanced up over the last furlong he was really good through the line. Out in trip here today from the wide gate, I expect Craig Newitt will send him forward as he was ridden during his first campaign, if he is able to get outside the leader and control the race from there, or even better still cover on the speed, he will be too strong. Second-up last campaign was his best run, also at this trip.
Hawkesbury Race 3
Omar is a speedy type that won two of his first four races. He was sent to the paddock after being well beaten at Listed level, he did pull up with a respiratory noise that day so we can excuse the margin. He has trialed well a few weeks ago at Rosehill, he was well away, led comfortably and was never pressured, winning in the 2nd quickest of the day. Admittedly most of the trials that day were 2YO’s, but the ease with which he did it was impressive. The heavy track is a little question mark but he has won on a soft track so we will take the punt that he can handle it. The two Gerald Ryan runners are the only winners on rain affected tracks, watch the betting as they are both speedy and if the money comes for Omar, the lead may be there uncontested in which case he will kick strongly into the straight and be too good.
Hawkesbury Race 6
Some would say that Ivira has had enough chances, she has been to the races seven times and is still yet to record that elusive maiden win. She was having her first go n a heavy track at Kembla last start, in a race a few of these came through, and apart from the winner she was clearly the run of the race. The winner led, the second horse was behind the leader and she was near to last settling. She came the widest, wasn’t even in the screen when the winner railed hard and went for home in the straight, she appeared out of nowhere before peaking late. She was the only horse that made any ground that day, she seemed to handle the conditions well enough and she should settle a lot closer in the run today. Look for her to be better than mid-field and making her run at the top of the straight, chiming in soon after.
