Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, September 6th
Geelong Race 4 (Market)
(10) Mr Vista looks worthy of a play here. He’s had two career starts, the first coming at Wodonga when running 2nd to Jay Gatsby. That horse of course ran 3rd for us at The Valley yesterday in a strong race. 3rd in that race was Flash Flood who actually won at The Valley, so the form is certainly stacking up. Mr Vista then went to Wangaratta and started a prohibitive $1.28, but by all reports didn’t handle the heavy track there. He also raced 3 wide without cover for periods of the race and lost a plate in the run when beaten nearly 10L. Respecting his SP there, and the run/SP on debut which is good enough for this and he’s a good price at $4.20. He does draw wide, but the Mick Price yard are flying and Melham jumps aboard here which looks a positive lead. If he can settle midfield with cover, he should be hard to beat on a good surface.
Geelong Race 5 (Market)
Straight over to the next race and I think there are two at odds that will run well. The first is (1) Whykayoh who was poor 1st up on a heavy track, which he doesn’t handle. The jump outs leading into this prep were very good, and he did break his maiden in dominant fashion when 2nd up last prep before taking on some strong city races. Luke Currie replaces the apprentice and he looks overs at the $15 available. The other horse I like is (8) Steamboat Rock who resumes from a spell here. He went very close to a win in his first 2 runs last prep behind Carrie (who goes around later) and Sky Horse, who has run well in group races. Steamboat Rock got his deserved maiden win over another handy horse in Thee One before a spell and has jumped out well for this first up assignment. I like a horse that goes out a winner and I think with another prep under his belt he can keep progressing, especially on a firmer surface.
Also backing: (8) Steamboat Rock $10
Gundagai Race 5 (Market)
(1) Bezos looks hard to beat here. He ran well 1st up on an unsuitable heavy track after getting back from a wide draw. The horse is at his best when rolling out in front, and it’s interesting to note that the 3kg claimer hops aboard here, jumping off the stablemate (3) Damselfly’s Kept. Both have the opportunity to go forward in their races, so it’ll be interesting to see what eventuates from a map perspective. Either way I think one of them will win so I’m happy to back Bezos and have a saver on the stablemate.
Saver: (3) Damselfly's Kept $5.50
