Horse Racing Tips - Saturday January 23rd
Doomben Race 4
The Tony Gollan runner (1) Garibaldi can make it a hat-trick of wins today. Michael Rodd is starting to land some form in QLD and takes over from Ryan Maloney. It’s a positive jockey booking. His last two starts in CL2 were improving runs, with a narrow victory followed by a victory by over a length. He commenced this preparation in CL3 which he steps back-up to again today.
The one query is the wider draw and the fact he has plenty of speed on his inside. He races well from the front or just on-speed, where today he may find himself a couple pairs back (unless Rodd pulls the trigger early). Either way, I am happy to take the price.
Sandown Race 5
The best bet on the program is (2) Quantum Mechanic for the Price/Kent stable. She was unlucky not to win last start at Flemington when she struck traffic in running, in an uncharacteristic poor ride by Jamie Kah. Once out of traffic she flashed to place behind Fundraiser & Caffrey. She would have won by a couple of lengths if she wasn’t left so far back. Jamie Kah stays on and will no doubt make amends—and we can expect her to be a lot closer in running today. Add to that she is dropping back in grade and facing easier company today, along with getting a cushy draw – and we have the Best Bet on the card.
BEST BET!
(2) Quantum Mechanic

Gawler Race 5
The Phillip Stokes runner (2) Taken Off looks to have another great chance of registering a win. Last start he ‘took off’ down the straight to overcome the leader Picargo for an impressive win. He goes up in grade today but meets an average field. He is starting to build a nice resume with 8 starts for 4 wins, all on Good tracks. Kayla Crowther is riding her fair share of winners, and she stays after a few nice rides.
I won’t be looking outside of the top selection here, and willing to take the price on offer along with dropping Taken Off into my multies.
Randwick Race 8
Pretty keen on the chances of (8) Bandersnatch to improve from last start and get a victory here (despite going up in grade). The Casino Prince gelding goes well in all conditions and gets his pet distance today. Last start, over shorter, he placed second by a head behind King Of Hastings. He has drawn gate 2 and Tommy Berry should be able to jump and lead them around the course. He’ll attempt to back them up then make the chase over the concluding stages.
Outside of him the field is wide open—with (9) Chat, (3) Order Again and (2) Gaulois the next best.
