Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Friday, August 14th.
After an astonishingly unlucky day yesterday, which still included a $6 winner, Tim Geers is hoping for redemption with his best bets for Goulburn, Muswellbrook and Geelong below!
Horse Racing Tips: Friday, August 14th
Goulburn Race 4 (Market)
The Peter and Paul Snowden team have a great record when they take runners to Goulburn, with a 35% strike rate at the track. I reckon they have a great chance in the form of (3) Invincible Dash here in Race 4. He was beaten 8.5L first up at Warwick Farm but that was a much harder race than this. Dropping from midweek metropolitan grade to a BM66 at Goulburn on a Friday is significant. He’s undefeated second up from a spell, which includes a victory at this track and distance, so expect him to come on from that first up run. The main question mark is the bog track as he’s failed badly both times he’s run on heavy ground before today, but if he does line up I’ll give him another chance to defy that as I doubt the stable would run him if they thought he was hopeless. Happy to take $6.00 to find out.

Muswellbrook Race 6 (Market)
Very keen to be with (3) Hard Faith here, who makes its stable debut for trainer Nathan Doyle today, who is making waves on the provincial scene in NSW. He’s particularly good at turning around the form of horses transferred to his stable, and this could be another. This mare used to be with John McArdle in Victoria, where she raced 34 times for 4 wins, including first up last prep at Geelong. She’s only had one trial for her new trainer and she won it well at Gosford. Doyle has had four runners here for two winners and a 2nd and this is his only runner of the day. He wastes no time booking his main jockey Koby Jennings, who has a 38% strike rate when riding for the stable. Drawn well in barrier 6 and looks set for a big run fresh at $6.00.
Geelong Race 6 (Market)
The staying race of the day at Geelong is over 2275m and I’ll be backing the Paul Preusker-trained (2) Lord Of Darkness here. He’s had three runs back this preparation and he looks ready to win now. He stepped up sharply from 1600m to 2100m last start and was four weeks between runs, so I think that will top him off nicely for this race today. His run last start was in town at Sandown and this should be a little bit easier. He was only beaten 2.7L last start and he ran the fastest final 200m of the race, so the writing is on the wall. Paul Preusker goes very well at Geelong, with a 31% strike rate, and he only has the two runners here today. Expecting him to be very competitive at $6.00.
