2024 AFL Round 19 Preview & Betting Tips
Geelong vs Western Bulldogs
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, 20th July, GMHBA Stadium
After a flying start to the year, Geelong lost six on the bounce and there were doubts about whether their time had passed, more so after the injury to Tom Hawkins. But with the return of Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron being the key forward, their fortunes have dramatically changed and they are now a legitimate premiership threat with several wins on the bounce and are once again turning GMHBA into a fortress. Cameron has been the most dynamic forward in the comp IMO since being the deeper target and the younger guys are starting to step up to help the veterans. They'll be pressing hard for a top two finish and will see this as a game they shouldn't be dropping.
The Bulldogs are the most frustrating team in the league because on paper, they are top four quality, but they are just so inconsistent with their form, the last couple of weeks being a good example. They were horrendous against the Power two weeks ago but come last week, they were outstanding when beating Carlton. This will be the big test for them and really, if they want to be playing Finals, they need to have statement wins, and beating Geelong at Geelong would be a big statement. At their best, the Dogs can beat anyone, as seen earlier in the year when pushing premiership favourites Sydney in a thriller.
Match Prediction
I do think Geelong will win. I their forward line will cause some real damage to the Doggies back six, who may struggle to contain Cameron, but if they do, then there is the likes of Stengle and Rohan to take over.

Geelong -11.5: As stated above, I do like Geelong and if their forward line can get going and dominate the back six of the Dogs, then the boys from Whitten Oval are in for a potentially long night.
Jeremy Cameron 2+ Goals: He has taken back his mantle as the best forward in the comp. They have tried him higher up the ground but clearly the deeper inside forward 50 he is, the more dynamic he can be for his team. I think he'll have a good night.
Sam Darcy 1+ Goals: He has had a pretty good year and I think will hit the scoreboard. There will be focus on Naughton and Jamarra, especially after the win last weekend, so I reckon Darcy could get an easier match up and with his height, will be hard to stop from taking marks.
